The “fresh and hilarious” Rachel Bloom is about to have her moment. As the star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The CW’s upcoming hour-long musical-comedy, she’ll be using both her comedy prowess and her pipes to play Rebecca, a lawyer who stalkerishly follows her ex to California after a minor nervous breakdown.

It’s about “love and infatuation making you a worse person,” Bloom says. “Really she should just be looking inside herself, but she doesn’t do that.”

Wackiness ensues, and extends to original musical numbers. Bloom has been doing comedy music for a few years now; her online music videos caught the eye of Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses), who co-created Crazy.

At its heart, Bloom says the show is “Ally McBeal with the musical sensibility of a Flight of the Conchords.” The show will air on Mondays (paired with the network’s hit Jane the Virgin)–see a preview here.

We talked to Bloom about the show, her talents, and what’s on her DVR; see what she had to say in the video above.
