‘The Crown’ Teases Queen Elizabeth II’s Final Chapter in Part 2 Trailer & Photos

The official trailer for The Crown‘s final episodes has arrived, and it’s filled with all the expected royal drama a viewer could hope for as Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) is forced to reckon with the monarchy’s shrinking relevancy.

Officially set to debut Wednesday, December 14, Part 2 of The Crown‘s sixth and final season consists of six hour-long episodes following Part 1’s Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki)-focused four installments that were released in November. In anticipation of the arrival, Netflix has released new posters, photos, and the abovementioned trailer.

Following the death of his mother, Prince William (Ed McVey) returns to Eton with an increase in attention from young female fans who his story has moved. The struggle to readjust leads to tensions between William and his family as they try to support the young heir to find his way within the system and the world itself.

Later, as Prince William attends St. Andrew’s University, the conflict of life as a public servant continues as he tries to maintain a balance of traditional undergraduate rites of passage with the constraints of his position within the institution of the royal family, particularly when it comes to having personal protection officers. As teased in the trailer, viewers will follow his introduction to his future wife, Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy), for whom he develops a crush at school.

Princess Margaret (Lesley Manville) will have to reassess her lifestyle when she suffers a stroke, and her health continues to decline. Along her journey, Margaret will find herself slipping back into her memories, including a secret night out with Elizabeth during the biggest part in history: VE Day 1945. It’s such memories that comfort Margaret in her final days.

Meanwhile, with the passing of her mother and sister, the Queen is facing her Golden Jubilee, and having approved the marriage between Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla (Olivia Williams), she starts to consider her reign and legacy at large. Steadily approaching her ninth decade, the monarch is forced to examine what’s best for the royal family she leads.

Joining Staunton, Manville, McVey, Bellamy, West, and Williams for the upcoming final episodes are Luther Ford as Prince Harry, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Claudia Harrison as Princess Anne, and Bertie Carvel as Tony Blair. And keep an eye out for familiar faces as the trailer hints at original series stars Claire Foy and Matt Smith‘s returns as Elizabeth and Philip in a flashback.

In the meantime, scroll down for a closer look at the final six episodes, and check out the trailer above for a peek at what’s to come.
