6 Burning Questions for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18

Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Finale Meredith Beach Ellen Pompeo
Spoiler Alert
ABC/Richard Cartwright

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for the Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 finale “Someone Saved My Life Tonight.”]

Grey’s Anatomy ended its COVID-filled 17th season on mostly a happy note: a wedding, an engagement, a doctor back in the OR, and an adoption. But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Winston (Anthony Hill) got married eight months later than they’d originally planned. Owen (Kevin McKidd) proposed to Teddy (Kim Raver) and she said yes. Link (Chris Carmack) popped the question to Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), and while we didn’t see her answer, it was clearly a no, since he looked devastated when he showed up at Jo’s (Camilla Luddington) new place (Jackson’s old apartment). And speaking of Jo, she officially adopted baby Luna after fighting for her to the point that she had asked Link to foster her until she could.

Plus, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) returned to the OR, and after, the staff was waiting with a clap-out for her. (She didn’t avoid this one like she had the one when she was discharged following her battle with COVID.)

But as always, we have quite a few questions about what’s coming up next, so scroll down as we look ahead to Season 18.

Grey’s Anatomy, Season 18, Fall 2021, NBC

Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Finale Owen Teddy Proposal
ABC

Will Owen and Teddy get married this time?

Well, the good news is they’ve made it past Teddy’s affair with Tom Koracick (Greg Germannand the other man is in Boston. The bad news is…this is Grey’s Anatomy, and it lives for drama, so until there are rings on both their fingers, anything is possible.

Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Finale Meredith Hayes Wedding
ABC

Will Grey's Season 18 see Meredith and Hayes together?

It seemed like the ABC medical drama had set up a love triangle with Meredith, DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), and Hayes (Richard Flood) in Season 16. Then Meredith got COVID and was in a coma for most of Season 17 and DeLuca was killed. In the finale, there were hints that a romance could be in Meredith and Hayes’ future, going by the look they exchanged at Maggie and Winston’s wedding.

Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Finale Amelia Link Proposal
ABC/Richard Cartwright

Are Link and Amelia truly over?

Link proposed to Amelia on the beach, after Maggie and Winston’s wedding, and it was romantic and…not what she wanted. The assumption is they’ve broken up, but as Grey’s has shown time and time again, that doesn’t mean this relationship is truly over.

Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Finale Jo Link
ABC

Are Jo and Link the next Grey's couple?

Link is now staying with Jo, and sure, they could just remain friends, but considering how far he was willing to go to help her by fostering Luna and the fact that they’re now living together, we wouldn’t be surprised if something happens.

Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Finale Meredith Clap Out
ABC

Is Meredith truly back in the OR?

Considering Grey’s Anatomy talked about the long-term effects of COVID in great detail — and showed them, through Meredith’s patients — we can’t help but wonder if any will arise for Mer. Or will we see Meredith back in top form when Season 18 begins?

Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Finale Jo Tom Koracick Bailey
ABC

Will Koracick owning Jo's shares of the hospital be a problem for Bailey?

In order to be able to afford to become a mom to Luna, Jo sold her shares of the hospital to Koracick, and to say Bailey (Chandra Wilson) was less than pleased would be an understatement. “You won’t even know I’m here, aside from board meetings, expense reports, weekly progress reports,” he promised. Considering Germann has exited as a series regular, chances are he won’t be too much of a problem, but you never know.
