The finale for Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 has come and gone, and with it, both Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) have also left the building at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital … possibly forever.

While their fates were definitively laid out in Thursday’s (May 7) closer, there were quite a few cliffhangers for the other characters in the surgical crew.

Luckily, ABC has already renewed Grey’s Anatomy for Season 23, so we know we’ll get the answers to these questions and more when the show returns this fall. Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Grey’s Anatomy‘s Season 22 finale.

Grey’s Anatomy, Season 23, Premiere Date TBA, ABC

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Fortunate Son” - Richard continues to navigate his health. Meanwhile, Meredith and Nick are visited by Nick’s estranged sister from Boston. THURSDAY, JAN. 22 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on ABC. (Disney/Ser Baffo) ELLEN POMPEO, SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Disney / Ser Baffo

What will Meredith and Nick's wedding be like?

After Nick (Scott Speedman) narrowly survived an operation to repair his transplanted kidney after he was injured in the bridge collapse, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) decided to take their relationship to the next level by proposing to him, and he accepted. Though she decided she won’t have a traditional wedding — she wouldn’t be Meredith if she did, after all — they are going to get hitched. With her first husband, Derek (Patrick Dempsey), they got “married” by Post-It note and only made it official when they had to at the courthouse. So how will Meredith and Nick say “I do”? Surely, it’ll be memorable somehow.

GREY’S ANATOMY - “When I Crash” - Grey Sloan takes in patients following a catastrophic bus accident. Teddy and Owen have an awkward encounter, and Richard tests Bailey’s patience. THURSDAY, NOV. 13 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) CAMILLA LUDDINGTON
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

Is Jo going to quit medicine?

Another big question mark left open by the finale is whether Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) is going to quit practicing medicine altogether. She’d already expressed her frustrations with the OB residency, and the finale saw her skip out on her big test for that specialty. Now, it looks like she might not even return to her previous post as an attending in general surgery. So what’s next for Jo? Is she really going to step away from her hardwon career after all of these years?

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Bridge over Troubled Water” - After a catastrophic bridge collapse sends dozens of victims to Grey Sloan, the hospital activates its full disaster response as they race to treat a surge of critically injured patients, including one of their own. THURSDAY, MAY 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) CHRIS CARMACK
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

Why is Link taking pills?

Jo’s not the only one who seems conflicted in that family. Link (Chris Carmack), after being overwhelmingly supportive of Jo’s right to whatever she wants to do with her life, took out a bottle of pills and downed one with a grimace that indicated something is seriously wrong. Is he secretly suffering from pain after his near-death experience in the explosion, or is he doing drugs for recreational reasons? Watch this space.

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Take Me to the River” - Bailey and Blue are forced to confront the emotional costs of experimental care. Meanwhile, Owen, Teddy, Simone and Dani help out at a busy rural hospital, and Richard attempts to spread information about early prostate screenings to the community. THURSDAY, MARCH 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) NIKO TERHO
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

What will happen with Simone, Bryant, and Lucas?

After their drunken hook-up, Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) and Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) didn’t get much of a chance to talk before Wes Bryant (Trevor Jackson) walked in and interrupted. But what Lucas did say is that he doesn’t regret the encounter; still, Simone chose to take off with Wes, so what does that mean for all three of them? And given Simone’s fertility treatments of late, is it possible there’ll be a surprise pregnancy in store?

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Wrecking Ball” - A couple lands in the hospital with life-altering injuries after a wrecking ball destroys their home. Lucas and Simone struggle to support a young, terminally ill patient, and Richard hosts a prostate screening event. THURSDAY, MARCH 19 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) ANTHONY HILL
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

What's next for Millin and Ndugu?

After witnessing all of the devastation of the bridge collapse, Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) and Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) all but admitted that they had fallen in love with one another and didn’t want to keep it a secret anymore — good thing, too, because Ben Warren (Jason George) definitely clocked them sneaking out of the supply closet afterward. Ndugu has been married once before — well, twice, technically, if you count the backyard barbeque ceremony that Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary) father shut down as too “broke” — so could there be wedding bells in their future, too? Or maybe even more? Millin has been freezing her eggs, so maybe children are on her mind?

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Feel it Still” - Jo returns for her first full day back from leave, and Owen struggles to keep it together when someone close to him is admitted to Grey Sloan. Meanwhile, Bailey navigates hospital leadership. THURSDAY, APRIL 2 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) CATERINA SCORSONE
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

What's next for Amelia and Toni?

It looked like Toni Wright (Jen Landon) might accept her ex’s offer to move to Seattle and reunite their family over Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), but then she changed her mind and showed up at Amelia’s door to let her know. Unfortunately, Amelia had company at the time, which put an apparent end to that right then and there. Will this inspire Toni to leave Grey Sloan and Seattle and re-choose her ex-wife, or is there more to the story with Amelia’s visitor?

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Love the Way You Lie” - Richard tackles a shocking case on his first day back, while Kavita and Jules prepare for a high-stakes presentation. Bailey must have a difficult conversation with a beloved patient, and Jo works to baby-proof the loft. THURSDAY, MARCH 12 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) HARRY SHUM JR.
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

Is Kwan ever coming back?

Richard did not relent when Benson Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) came asking for his job back after helping out with bridge collapse victims all day long. Though he was willing to look the other way for Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Blue will not be forgiven. Richard demanded his badge and walked away, despite a nice speech from Kwan about his value to the program and medicine in general. So is his firing for good, or will he be given a second chance like some of the other problematic interns past?

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Feel it Still” - Jo returns for her first full day back from leave, and Owen struggles to keep it together when someone close to him is admitted to Grey Sloan. Meanwhile, Bailey navigates hospital leadership. THURSDAY, APRIL 2 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) JAMES PICKENS JR., CHANDRA WILSON
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

Is Miranda really going back to school?

Like Jo, Miranda was left with some questions about her future at the hospital in the finale — only, for her, it was about what she would need to do to become a Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) and have “a seat at the table.” Ben accidentally revealed the potential answer — getting a master’s degree in public health administration — and said he’d be “all in” if that’s what she chooses to do next.

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Through the Fire” - A Station 19 firefighter lands in the ER for severe burn treatment, and the team treats an elderly patient impaled by an art structure. A Fox Foundation innovation competition reunites Meredith and Bailey. THURSDAY, APRIL 30 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) KEVIN MCKIDD, KIM RAVER
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

Will Owen and Teddy ever come back?

Owen and Teddy’s exit seemed like a forever goodbye to the show, but since they were both still alive at the end of it, there’s always a chance they could come back.

(Disney/Anne Marie Fox) SOPHIA BUSH
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

Could Cass and her husband take over their spots?

Cass Beckman (Sophia Bush) was on hand to help with traumas, including Nick’s surgery, during the finale, and it’s because she’s a trauma surgeon. Meanwhile, her husband, David (Wil Traval) is a cardiothoracic surgeon. With Owen and Teddy taking leave of the hospital, could Teddy’s former fling and her hubby slide in to fill their spots?

GREY’S ANATOMY - “Strip That Down” - Addison Montgomery returns to Grey Sloan, seeking assistance with a patient with a neurological condition. Bailey joins Owen and Blue on a paramedic ride-along. THURSDAY, JAN. 29 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) CATERINA SCORSONE, KATE WALSH
Disney / Anne Marie Fox

Who else will return to cameo?

Grey’s Anatomy‘s tradition of bringing back fan favorites who’ve left the show continued apace in Season 22, with the returns of Maggie Pierce, Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), and Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh). But there are still some we haven’t seen since their exits, including Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). So who might suit back up in scrubs once again for Season 23? We’ll see!

Will this be the final season?

The question of when Grey’s Anatomy will inevitably end has been at the top of mind for fans for years, so it’s only natural to wonder if TV’s longest-running primetime medical drama will call it quits with this season or not.
