We may have only gotten two episodes each of the One Chicago shows in 2020, but we were still left wondering about quite a bit for when Med, Fire, and P.D. all return on January 6.

After all, there’s the matter of tackling COVID in Chicago, which, of course, hasn’t slowed down the flirtations and potential romances. But will one take a step forward in the hospital?

Meanwhile, there isn’t just heat at 9/8c on Wednesdays from the fires. Firefighter Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) and paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) have been doing the will they/won’t they dance for years, but is it finally their time?

And Intelligence has already faced some change, with Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez is joining DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) leaving between seasons, but is something coming Detective Hailey Upton’s (Tracy Spiridakos) way that may shake things up some more?

Scroll down as we take a look at our burning questions for One Chicago’s 2021 episodes.

How will Chicago Med continue to address COVID?

In the first two episodes of Season 6, some of the staff has been working in the COVID ICU, specifically nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). We’ve already seen medical drama The Good Doctor move to a post-COVID world in its third episode; how much longer will Med stay in the middle of the pandemic?

Will most of Med's romances remain in limbo?

Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) ended their romance – so soon after saying “I love you” — when she moved away to take care of herself and her addiction. Meanwhile, his ex, Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), has the potential for something with Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains), but there hasn’t been any progress made between seasons. And exes April and Ethan seemed to be on their way back to one another at the end of last season but also haven’t taken any steps forward.

Is Casey and Brett's romance over before it began on Fire?

Casey and Brett barely got started before she immediately hit the pause button. They kissed and she asked about his ex-wife. If Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) returned to Chicago and asked him to leave with her, would he? “I don’t know,” he admitted, but insisted it was “complicated.” Brett kicked him out, leaving them in a very uncertain place heading into 2021.

Will Kidd be Chicago Fire's next lieutenant?

Firefighter Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) has been killing it with her Girls on Fire program to get teens interested in the CFD, and after an impressive save on a call, Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) suggested she take the lieutenant’s exam. There aren’t enough women or people in color in leadership positions in the CFD, he said, adding, “You are courageous, intelligent, fierce, and honorable. That is the very definition of a leader. It’s time everyone got to see it.”

Will Mack and Gallo be the next Firehouse romance?

The new paramedic at 51, Mack (Adriyan Rae), may already have her sights set on a firefighter, Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende). However, fellow firefighter Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) — who’s from the same neighborhood as Mack — is already doing everything in his power to intimidate and dissuade Gallo from even thinking about it.

What's next for Atwater and Nolan?

In the second episode of Season 8, Officer Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) paid Nolan (Brent Sexton) a visit to tell him his plan to deal with the latter being behind the harassment he’s been facing for coming forward a racist cop. Atwater threatened to sue him and the CPD for what Nolan and his men have put him through. He was willing to give up his job to take down Nolan if he kept coming after him or his unit. Nolan nodded, but is that it?

Is the FBI in the future for P.D.'s Upton?

Last season, Sergeant Voight (Jason Beghe) sent Detective Upton to New York’s FBI when she exhibited some very Voight-like behavior. She’s back in Season 8, but the preview for what’s to come shows that the FBI is sending her packages and has a task force offer for her.

Will there be a major One Chicago crossover?

Thanks to the three shows airing back-to-back-to-back, fans have been treated to some major crossovers over the years. These three-hour events bring everyone together, usually with some major call for 51 that leads to patients at the hospital and a case for Intelligence. But due to COVID, that’s not as easy as it has been to do in the past.

What might other Chicago crossovers look like?

While COVID does exist in the worlds of all three shows, Med is tackling it head-on while it seems to be on the periphery for Fire and P.D., which does cut down on the ways crossovers can happen. Sure, paramedics can bring a victim to the hospital, and a detective can investigate suspicious circumstances, but chances are we’re not likely to see things we have before, like Intelligence pulling one of the firefighters or the paramedics for something or a firefighter getting trapped in an elevator with a doctor and a patient.
