‘9-1-1’ Finale Photos: 118 Rallies for Athena, Plus Eddie’s Shot (Again)?!
At the end of the penultimate episode of 9-1-1 Season 9, it looked like the finale would be spent worrying that Athena (Angela Bassett) could die after being shot. But now, the promo for the May 7 finale reveals that we also have to worry about Eddie (Ryan Guzman)!
The April 30 episode ended with Athena being shot by a corrupt detective, Hooks (Josh Stamberg), amidst what he’d told her was a raid of a mob house; he killed their target, claiming he’d had a gun, then shot her when she called him out on there not being a weapon.
Now, the preview for the 9-1-1 Season 9 finale, “Hearts and Flowers,” begins with Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Eddie bringing Athena to the hospital, and she’s lost a lot of blood. The rest of the 118, including her son Harry (Elijah M. Cooper), joins them there. She goes into cardiac arrest and is taken into surgery, where she seemingly flatlines … or does she?
Promos can be cut to be misleading, and the rest of this one reveals Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) reporting there’s an active shooter at the hospital, which goes into lockdown. Chimney (Kenneth Choi) yells for everyone to get on the ground. Eddie presses the button for the elevator with a bloody hand, and it looks like he was shot again (remember the sniper?), this time in his side. Uh-oh! Watch the video above.
The episode’s description also seems to tease that Eddie may have been targeted, since he and Hen were the ones front and center fighting for the migrants who had been trafficked: “Following Athena’s shooting, the 118 gathers at the hospital awaiting news. Meanwhile, the mastermind behind the trafficking ring is determined to silence Athena and anyone who gets in his way for good.”
We’ll also have to see if the finale has anything more about Buck (Oliver Stark) and his biological son, Theo, from his sperm donation to his friends Kameron (Chelsea Kane) and Connor (Colin McCalla). They died during a crash on a bridge during the penultimate episode, and a next of kin hasn’t been revealed just yet. Could this lead to Buck taking him in? It does seem like a strong possibility.

Definitely see a new dynamic of Buck and Theo, giving Buck an opportunity to grow up. As for the 2 potential fatalities, haven’t fans been betrayed enough already by last season’s loss? Surely there are other cliffhangers to keep an audience coming back. They can’t think betraying the loyalty of their fans again is a good idea. We may just look elsewhere for our tv drama.

I don't mind Eddie's NDE; I wished for one for at least 2 seasons, because I love the hurt/comfort that usually goes with an NDE... well, that is if there is any hurt/comfort and if he doesn't die (cause then I guess I'll stop watching). That is actually the only thing right now that makes me want to watch the next episode, because I have zero interest in that Buck and kid storyline, which I actually hate. I said this elsewhere :
I shouldn't have watched it live; I would have fastforwarded those scenes with Buck and the kid (I was actually bored out of my mind). This episode made me actually question for the first time ever if I should stop watching.
I will admit that I am not a kid person; I don't connect with them at all, which doesn't mean I hate them, just to be clear. But I was not "enamoured" by the kid; it has nothing to do with the casting, I just don't feel that with pretty much most kids. I love Chris, but there is a huge difference between how him and Theo were introduced, which is what I especially hate with this storyline; I hate how Buck might be a dad (because that kid is not his - he's just biologically related, that doesn't make him his kid). They traumatized that poor kid just to give Buck a child...?? Seriously...?? That kid is supposed to have a family already, is he not? That is just lazy writing. I don't doubt that Buck would be a great dad, but not right now (especially after everything that happened recently) and not with that kid.

I haven't watched this yet but it seems that all the writers have left on multiple shows is getting rid of people. Athena shot, Bobby killed off last season. I truly don't see how this advanced the storytelling on 911. Have I missed it? I don't think so. They killed off Amanda on Will Trent when she was just shot the previous season and recovered. Now Angie's husband was killed off. Same with High Potential, Wagner shot...yes I know the other guys have other shows but couldn't they leave it open for a guest spot or 2. Why watch anymore

Interesting. Here in Richmond, VA, Comcast has been feuding with Scripps which controls our local CBS station. We haven’t had CBS for several months. I watch my favorite CBS programs on the CBS app on my iPad. I’d say Comcast needs to get new management.
