‘9-1-1’ Season 10 Trailer: The 118 vs. a Volcano to Find a Missing Athena

Welcome back, 9-1-1. Is there any other way to react to the pretty epic Season 10 trailer?!

Yes, the 118 and Los Angeles are dealing with a volcano. As executive producer Tim Minear told TV Insider, “We base everything on very hard science, so the volcano, as it’s erupting, starts to build up a bit of a cone. So, it’s not like a giant volcano breaks out of the ground in the middle of L.A. — actually, it is a little bit like that, now that I think about it. Because you want to see a cone!”

And that’s going to cause massive problems for everyone. After all, as Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) notes in the trailer, there’s no protocol for a volcano in Los Angeles.

9-1-1, of course, leans into the lava and volcano of it the way only 9-1-1 can: with lines like “Let’s get in there and try not to get Pompeii‘d” from Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Chimney’s (Kenneth Choi) “You ever play that game, the floor is lava? Well, the floor is lava.”

Meanwhile, Athena (Angela Bassett) apparently crawled through a hole in the ground — we see her in the middle of a collapsed area and hearing someone yelling — but then her daughter May (Corinne Massiah), at work in the hospital, can’t reach her. But you know the 118 will do everything they can to get to her.

Watch the full trailer above for much more, including someone falling while lowering someone down in a basket from the ladder, the volcano itself, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) rescuing a dog, and the 118 having to leap between cars without touching the ground, which, again, is lava. Oh, and someone falls into the lava at one point. Really, welcome back, 9-1-1.
