‘You’re the Worst’: Ben Folds to Guest Star in Season 3

You’re the Worst has booked musician Ben Folds to play a fictionalized version of himself in Episode 7 of the FXX’s comedy’s upcoming third season.

“[He’s] a potential client for [publicist] Gretchen,” executive producer Stephen Falk shares of the singer-songwriter, who led Ben Folds Five before going solo; he’s also a former judge on The Sing-Off. “But a f—ed up version of Ben Folds.”

Though Gretchen (Aya Cash) isn’t familiar with Folds (“She doesn’t know who the f— Ben Folds is; I think she had to learn,” Falk laughs), the producer is a longtime fan. “I got really lucky,” he says. “It was so thrilling to have him on…I’ve always loved his music; I go to his shows whenever I can.”

And Folds (who previously acted in a 2014 episode of NBC’s Community) also impressed Falk with his work on the show. “You worry, because acting’s not easy,” he says. “But [Folds] was so great, and so nice and engaged and fun and on top of it and playful.”
