Originally from Chicago, Desmin Borges grew up in Houston from ages 9-18. He returned to the Windy City to attend the DePaul University Theater School and emerged into the Chicago theater scene. He appeared on stage at Chicago's Steppenwolf Garage, and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, but his breakout stage role was originating the part of Mace in Kristoffer Diaz's play "The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity" in 2010. The play was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize. Borges also played Mace at the Geffen Theater in Los Angeles and Off Broadway in New York City. The high profile play exposed Borges to a number of casting directors, and he was quickly cast in a number of supporting roles in film and television, including "Mr. Popper's Penguins" (2010) starring Jim Carrey, "Law & Order: SVU" (NBC, 1999-), and "Tower Heist" (2011) starring Ben Stiller.

He booked his first recurring series role on the Dane Cook vehicle, "Next Caller" (NBC, 2013) which filmed four episodes that never made it to air because of creative differences between the network and star. The same year he appeared in a number of guest roles on shows like "The Good Wife" (CBS, 2009-), "Unforgettable" (CBS, 2011-2014; A&E, 2015-), and "The Mysteries of Laura" (NBC, 2014-). In 2014, he appeared in his first series regular role on the anti-romantic comedy, "You're The Worst" (FX, 2014; FXX, 2015-).
