Apparently, no one ever taught Adam Price (Richard Armitage) that all-important rule: Don’t talk to strangers.

In the new mystery series, The Stranger, based on author Harlan Coben‘s bestselling 2015 novel, the mild-mannered family man’s life begins to crumble when he encounters an enigmatic woman (Hannah John-Kamen) who reveals a devastating secret about his wife, Corinne (Dervla Kirwan).

“She offers Adam evidence that his wife deceived him in one of the worst ways imaginable,” hints Coben, also an executive producer on the series. As Adam frantically looks into the truth, he realizes that he isn’t the only one being targeted. The stranger is dropping these bombs on other people too. But why? And how is it all connected?

Detective Johanna Griffin (Downton Abbey‘s Siobhan Finneran) becomes entangled in Adam’s quest for answers in multiple ways. First, a clue in a murder investigation seems to point to Corinne. Then Johanna’s best friend (Absolutely FabulousJennifer Saunders in a rare dramatic role) receives crushing info from the same stranger who targeted Adam.

“She comes into your life and reveals your most intimate secrets,” Coben says of John-Kamen’s character. “The stranger quickly shows you that revealing those secrets will reverberate in ways you can’t fathom.”
