Fore!

Comedians Jon Daly (Kroll Show) and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation) play for laughs as they transform themselves into their real-life professional golfer alter egos John Daly and Adam Scott in The Adult Swim Golf Classic (airing April 8 at 11:30/10:30c).

“From a young age, I was obsessed with John Daly,” says Daly the actor. “He was a funny, weird, non-traditional golfer who shared my name, but then as the Internet came to mean something to me, most of the hits were for John Daly and I wanted to take back my name!”

Jon Daly decided to start a website, JonDalyIsJohnDaly.com, where he would don makeup and golf attire to infiltrate the athlete’s Google image searches. But the gag was elevated in this half-hour live action Adult Swim special as Jon Daly recruited his Secret Life of Walter Mitty costar Adam Scott, who also shares a name with Australian professional golfer and Masters champion Adam Scott, to join in on the joke. “Basically it’s Jon Daly as John Daly versus Adam Scott as Adam Scott,” Daly says with a laugh.

Set in 1966 and inspired by the classic Wonderful World of Golf series, the special centers around a charity golf championship between the old-school blue-collar Daly and the attractive up-and-comer Scott. “The aesthetic of old televised golf is so spare and funny because you can’t believe that you’re actually watching a sport,” says Daly.

Since the action takes place at the upscale Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., both Daly and Scott the actors were able to showcase their own real-life golf skills. “I play golf once or twice a year with my dad, but I am not good,” Daly says. “But it was Adam’s first time and he surprisingly does a really good job.” Sounds like a hole in one.
