Amid countless loyalty shifts and power grabs, sci-fi drama The 100‘s fifth season — possibly its most brutal, thanks to Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) — comes to an end.

Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Co. consider a desperate measure to protect their place on the ground against the space convicts led by McCreary (William Miller). “One thing we do is we say something bad is going to happen, we present the worst-case scenario, and it always happens. We don’t avoid it,” showrunner Jason Rothenberg says ominously.

“And the story of the season was two powerful groups fighting over one green valley. If that valley is destroyed, then Earth is no more.” Given that the show was renewed for Season 6, that should give us hope for the planet.

Then again, The 100 has never played it safe when it comes to the apocalypse!
