What’s Worth Watching: Inside Comedy’s Last Laugh
Inside Comedy, “Conan O’Brien & Jeffrey Tambor” (Tuesday, June 9, 11/10c, Showtime)
Over the past four seasons, Showtime’s Inside Comedy has taken viewers inside the psyches of a variety of comedy legends and some of today’s biggest names in Hollywood. Host David Steinberg’s easy rapport and great respect for his interview subjects are apparent in tonight’s Season 4 finale featuring late night host Conan O’Brien and actor Jeffrey Tambor. The two celebrated performers discuss their childhood backgrounds and comedy influences before delving into the current state of the industry. For O’Brien, it’s finding himself the elder statesman among late night hosts after the retirements of Jay Leno and David Letterman. And Tambor has been on a victory lap of his own, enjoying some of the greatest critical praise of his career as transgendered Maura Pfefferman on the new Amazon series Transparent. It’s a frank and fascinating half hour that gives the audience deeper insight into the minds of these two unique humorists.
