Watch My Show: Outback Nation’s Producer on Why You Should Watch His “Backyard Tarzan”

Outback Nation

Home improvement shows have come in almost every shape and size. But FYI’s Outback Nation goes outside to tackle another part of the home: The backyard.

The show features Australian-born landscape designer Jamie Durie as he rehabs gardens, decks, pools and more to turn outdoor spaces into something more habitable. Brant Pinvidic, the chief creative officer of Outback Nation producer 3 Ball Entertainment, filled out our showrunner survey, to explain why we should take a trip to the Outback.

I have time to watch one more show. Why should it be yours?
Because it’s one of the most extreme landscape makeover shows ever, and Jamie Durie almost gets eaten by an alligator and thrown from a 40-foot tree in the first episode.

Who should be watching?
Everyone! Although, the ladies tend to have a real connection with Jamie (maybe because he’s the original “Thunder from Down Under”).

What happens if we don’t watch?
You will be considered an outcast amongst your peer group and never learn the secret to landscaping brilliance!

What’s the best thing someone has said about your show?
Email from host Jamie Durie: “I am literally sleeping in this backyard in a tent with the family. This is the best television I’ve ever done.”

What’s the worst thing?
Email from my production management: “If Jamie keeps designing these yards we will go WAY over budget!”

Who was right?
Both of them.

What’s an alternate title for your show?
Backyard Tarzan.

Give us an equation for your show.
Crocodile Dundee plus Bear Grylls minus the hotel at night multiplied by Extreme Home Makeover (subtract the bus).

Come up with a premise for a spin-off.
The Outback Bachelor. 12 single women looking for love sleep in tents in the backyards with Jamie.

What credit of yours would you prefer we forget?
Officer #2 in the direct-to-video Kiefer Sutherland movie Dead Heat.

Tell us one thing about your cast.
Jamie’s fearless (and sometime reckless) antics can make you forget how skilled and professional he is as a designer… until you see the reveal.

What other series would you most like to be an executive producer on?
Survivor, I’ve never missed an episode.

Let’s scare the network. Tell us something that didn’t make it to air.
Don’t tell our insurance company, but I may have seen Jamie chase an alligator into the water before we were able to call animal control (and I may have that on tape).

Finish this sentence: “If you like________, you’ll love our show.”
Amazing personality and jaw-dropping before and after reveals.

Pick a show and start a fake feud.
Man vs. Wild. Jamie challenges Bear to survive some of the backyards on this show. That would be a real survival test.

What other show would you like to do a crossover episode with?
Catch a Contractor. Would love to see Adam Carolla team up with Jamie to track down disastrous landscape contractors that have ruined people’s yards.

How will your show change the face of TV as we know it?
After you see Jamie perform these kinds of miracles in these overgrown yards, you’ll believe anything is possible.

Outback Nation airs Sunday nights at 10/9c on FYI.
