Finale Fever: Three Shows Signing Off Tonight (and One for Good)
Tonight is a busy night for season (and series) finales; here, a look at what’s ending this evening:
Mike & Molly, (Season finale, 8:30/7:30c, CBS) If you thought marrieds Mike (Billy Gardell) and Molly (Melissa McCarthy) were unhappy when his best friend, Carl (Reno Wilson), started dating her sister, Victoria (Katy Mixon), wait until you see how miserable they are now that the couple has split— and they must uninvite poor Carl from their anniversary cruise. “Because the wounds were so fresh,” executive producer Al Higgins says, “they have to make a hard choice between close friend and family.” Carl, however, doesn’t take kindly to being left out. And, as Mike and Molly learn, hell hath no fury like a grown man denied a cruise buffet.
2 Broke Girls, (Season finale, 8/7c, CBS) At last, Polish émigré Sophie (Jennifer Coolidge) and Ukrainian fry cook Oleg (Jonathan Kite) are getting married.”They’re both looking forward to the romance of their big, beautiful wedding,” executive producer Michael Patrick King says, “and the deliciousness of the ham after it.” But when the actual day comes, three things are missing: Sophie’s besties, Max (Kat Dennings) and Caroline (Beth Behrs), and the massive, specially designed gown the bride had flown in from Poland. (“The dress box is almost as big as the girls’ debt,” King says with a laugh.) The duo do Sophie a favor by fetching it from the airport—and get trapped in the subway on their way home. Sophie probably should have said no to this dress.
The Following, (Season finale, 8/7c, Fox) “It’s the biggest thing we’ve done in all three seasons,” says executive producer Marcos Siega of what could be Ryan Hardy’s (Kevin Bacon) last stand. Whether this epic final showdown involves the ongoing hunt for Michael Ealy’s maniacal Theo or possibly a larger threat, Siega isn’t saying. But he does reveal that Federal Agent Hardy will be forced to make “a pretty profound choice” in the episode’s closing minutes that has been designed to leave viewers horrified. “There is a cliffhanger to it, and it’s going to have fans saying, ‘Holy s–t, I didn’t see that coming!'”
