What’s Worth Watching: Sing It On Brings Pitch Perfect to Television
Sing It On, “Auditions” (Wednesday, May 13, 10/9c, Pop) *Regular timeslot is 9/8c.
With Glee‘s series finale earlier this year, and Pitch Perfect 2 hitting theaters this week, a cappella is sweeping pop culture. This docu-reality series follows five of the brightest and most vocal collegiate a cappella groups – AcaBelles (Florida State University), All Night Yahtzee (Florida State University), No Comment (University of Illinois), Nor’easters (Northeastern University), and Pitch, Please! (Northeastern University).
In tonight’s premiere, we’ll see new recruits audition for the exclusive, tight-knit groups. Short-term goals? Survive the constant rehearsals, while also juggling demanding schoolwork, jobs and relationships. Long-term goal? Get their a cappella group to the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella finals, where they can gain international fame for their musical chops. The 8-episode show is executive produced by former UPenn a cappella singer, and current Grammy-winning musician, John Legend.
