Trust just got Swank-ier. Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank is the latest name added to the cast of FX’s new limited series, Trust. The 10-episode series will explore the 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, who was only 16 when he was snatched from Rome by members of the Italian mafia. Swank will star as Gail Getty, John Paul Getty III’s mother who is desperate to follow the kidnapper’s ransom demands although she was penniless herself. Emmy and Golden Globe winner Donald Sutherland had previously been announced as J. Paul Getty, the oil tycoon and eccentric Getty family patriarch.

The series will chronicle the 5-month-long ordeal that Getty III faced at the hands of his kidnappers, including the removal of his ear, which was sent to his family. The bizarre actions by the family of oil titans and the mishandling of the case by police will also be explored.

Trust comes from the Academy Award-winning team of Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy and Christian Colson. All three men will serve as executive producers, Boyle is set to direct, and Beaufoy will write the series. Production begins in London and Rome in June and is scheduled to premiere on FX in January 2018.
