With only a few days left until Prison Break returns to television, the cast and crew were especially coy during their WonderCon panel.

The first episode screened for fans at the Anaheim convention, and during the audience Q&A portion of the afternoon, a fan asked Dominic Purcell (Lincoln) about getting into the mindset for a scene where Lincoln is grappling with questions about Michael’s (Wentworth Miller) fate.

“It was late at night; I was preparing for that scene because it’s very important, obviously,” Purcell said. “I just imagined, as an actor, you sometimes have to go to places you don’t want to go to. I just used my own personal well in life and let it happen. We got it done within two takes.”

Added executive producer Vaun Wilmott: “Dom is really powerful in that moment, because not only is he a great actor, but he has these deep feelings for Wentworth, and they have that bond; it really comes across on camera.” (Of Miller and Purcell’s long-time bond—which also featured the duo working together in the DC Universe—Prison Break newbie Inbar Lavi joked, “It was kind of like, ugh, get a room!”)

Though Michael was believed to be dead by the end of the original series, he’s back in the revival. “I can’t give certain things away, but Michael is first and foremost about family,” Miller said. “I think the show is as well: the bond between the brothers. Michael and [his wife] Sara become a family of sort. I think it’s what gives the show its beating heart. Knowing his son is out there somewhere, being raised by someone else, is part of the fuel in Michael’s tank. It’s what motivates him to get out of this hellish predicament.”
