Penelope Cruz Cast as ‘American Crime Story’s’ Donatella Versace

We haven’t even gotten to the second installment of FX’s American Crime Story but that’s not stopping Academy Award-winner Penelope Cruz from being cast in the third installment, Versace: American Crime Story.

Cruz, who won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 2009 for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, will play Donatella Versace, sister to murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace in the award-winning limited series from Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Production on the series is schedule for April with an airdate expected to be in 2018.

The first season of the series, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, aired in early 2016 and won Emmys in Outstanding Limited Series, Writing, Lead Actor (Courtney B. Vance), Lead Actress (Sarah Paulson) and Supporting Actor (Sterling K. Brown) categories as well as several technical categories.

Katrina: American Crime Story is the second season of the series and is set to air in early 2018 on FX and will star Annette Bening, Matthew Broderick, Vance, Paulson and Cuba Gooding, Jr., who plays O.J. Simpson in the first season.
