‘Sister Wives’: Christine Brown Reveals Moment She Knew Marriage to Kody Was Over

Sister Wives star Christine Brown Woolley has been reflecting on her marriage to polygamist Kody Brown and the moment she knew their relationship was truly over.

On Sunday’s (November 1) episode of the TLC reality series, Christine spoke to her fellow former sister wife, Meri Brown, about leaving the plural marriage. Meri, who separated from Kody in 2023, described her leaving the marriage as a “process, because I still felt like I had my values, which were commitment, marriage, whatever.”

Christine shared similar sentiments, telling Meri, per People, “I didn’t know I had to leave until I knew it was time to go, and then I left.”

One of the main factors in Christine’s decision was Kody’s refusal to come to their daughter Ysabel’s back surgery. Christine shares six children with Kody, including Ysabel, who was diagnosed with scoliosis in 2017 and underwent 12-hour spinal fusion surgery in 2020.

“That was the biggest [thing],” Christine said. “I was like, I can’t be married to this guy anymore. He just says, in front of Ysabel’s face, ‘I can’t leave my family that long.’ And she was like, ‘I thought we were family.'”

Christine also said that Meri herself played a part in her decision. She recalled a conversation during the show’s 10th season, when she finally admitted to Meri, “I can’t do marriage with Kody anymore.”

At the time, Meri tried to comfort Christine and told her to focus on the stunning views. “I was thinking — I know you were talking, you were probably saying beautiful things — but what I was thinking was, ‘I don’t want what I have, and I don’t want what you have, and I don’t care about those mountains anymore,'” Christine confessed.

She also brought up the time she kicked Kody out of her bedroom. “He wasn’t attracted to me. He wasn’t interested,” Christine explained. “And he came over, and he starts going up the stairs. I said, ‘What are you doing?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I’m gonna go to bed.’ I’m like, ‘Your bed’s not here. You have to leave.'”

After Kody asked where his bedroom was, Christine said she told him, “‘I don’t know. It’s not here. That’s my bedroom. The only person allowed in there is me, because I actually wanna be with me.'”

Christine publicly announced her split from Kody in 2021 after 25 years together. Over the next two years, Meri and Janelle Brown also left the polygamous marriage. Kody remains married to his fourth wife, Robyn Brown. In October 2023, Christine married David Woolley.
