‘Jeopardy!’: Close Game Determined By Triple Stumper Final Clue
Spoiler Alert
Did the current Jeopardy! champion win again? The game came down to a Triple Stumper final clue, so the wagers were what mattered because it was a close game between two contestants.
Stefanie Landeweer, from Lexington Park, Maryland, entered her second game with a total of $19,400. The chemistry professor played against Andrew Medlin, from Shreveport, Louisiana, and Sarah Sinclair, from Seattle, Washington. Warning: Spoilers for the Thursday, October 29, episode of Jeopardy! ahead!
Sinclair, a product manager, took a huge lead after finding both Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy. However, Landeweer gave her a run for her money when she came within $2,300 of her by the end of the round.
At the end of the Double Jeopardy round, Sinclair was in the lead with $17,900. Landeweer was close with $15,600. Medlin, a high school teacher, was in third place with $1,800.
The Final Jeopardy category was “Authors.” The clue read, “In February 1924, Punch magazine published ‘Teddy Bear’, a poem by this author then known as a humorist & playwright.” None of the game show contestants knew that the correct response was “Who is A.A. Milne?”
Medlin wrote, “Who is Ferber?” He wagered $1,799, giving him a final total of $1. Landeweer’s response was “Who is Oscar Wilde?” She wagered $5,000, leaving her with $10,600.
Sinclair’s response was “Who is Mencken?” She had Wilde at first, but crossed it out. That didn’t matter, though, because both responses were incorrect. Sinclair wagered $13,301, making her final total $4,599.
This made Landeweer a two-day champion. She had a two-day total of $30,000. Find out if Landeweer will win her third game on Friday.
Fans reacted to the final clue on Reddit. “Missed that Punch was a key part of the clue; it would have helped me get to the right side of the Atlantic,” one said.
“I wasn’t familiar with the publication or poem, but seeing the answer makes perfect sense,” a fan commented.
