Fall 2026’s New Shows: Which Will Be Renewed & Canceled?

The fall portion of the 2026-2027 season is underway, with five new scripted shows on the schedule: Cupertino, Eternally Yours, Line of Fire, NCIS: New York, and Newlyweds. Before we get too invested in these new offerings, we’re taking a look at the ratings (across platforms now matters, too) to see if there’s a chance any or all of them will be sticking around. After all, with so many shows competing for spots in the primetime lineup, that’s what matters.

Fortunately, four of the five shows — Newlyweds has only aired one episode — are doing well across about a month’s worth of episodes. That means unless any of them show significant drops, networks will have some hard decisions to make when it comes to which ones can fit in with programming plans for the 2027-2028 season.

Below, we make our predictions about whether Cupertino, Eternally Yours, Line of Fire, NCIS: New York, and Newlyweds will be renewed or canceled. Let us know yours in the comments section.

Mike Colter as Michael Price and Rachel Keller as Olivia Siffre — 'Cupertino'
Elizabeth Fisher/CBS

Cupertino

Premiere: October 8

Prediction: Renewed

Not only is it a critical success already, with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes — our critic, Matt Roush, called it “the best and most entertaining new show this fall on any platform” in his review — but it’s also doing well in the ratings, with 3.19 million tuning in to the premiere on CBS and a 125% gain across platforms over seven days. Plus, the Kings know how to deliver great TV, so we don’t see that changing, making for what should be an easy decision for CBS.

Allegra Edwards as Liz and Ed Weeks as Charles — 'Eternally Yours'
Bertrand Calmeau/CBS

Eternally Yours

Premiere: October 8

Prediction: Renewed

The new CBS comedy from the same creators of Ghosts took over that slot for the fall, and it, too, is showing gains (68%) across platforms from its series premiere numbers for its CBS airing. It also seems to be fitting in well in the Thursday night lineup, so as long as that continues, it should remain part of the network’s programming.

Taylor Bloom as Russ Hollingsworth, Tommy O'Brien as Mike Jr. "Micah" Hollingsworth, Kat Cunning as Clare Hollingsworth, Hope Davis as Jane Hollingsworth, Peter Krause as Mike Hollingsworth — 'Line of Fire'
Spencer Pazer/NBC

Line of Fire

Premiere: September 21

Prediction: Renewed

The drama has already gotten a full-season order for its freshman year, and its premiere has shown the most gain in viewers across platforms in seven days (2.98 million to 6.9 million, 132%) for new series. Unless it begins showing significant drops in the back half of the season, it feels like a renewal is very likely.

LL Cool J as NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna and Scott Caan as NCIS Special Agent Nick Schaeffer — 'NCIS: New York'
Emily V. Aragones/CBS

NCIS: New York

Premiere: October 6

Prediction: Renewed

The latest entry in the hit franchise has the most-watched premiere of this year’s new fall shows, with 5.62 million tuning in and that number growing by 82% across platforms over the first seven days (10.25 million). Its viewership has stayed pretty steady week-to-week, and with the network already believing in it enough to give it a 20-episode order for Season 1, a renewal seems inevitable.

Tim Daly as James, Jamie Lee Curtis as Claudia, Tea Leoni as Jeanie — 'Newlyweds'
Nicole Weingart/NBC

Newlyweds

Premiere: October 23

Prediction: Too early to predict

Only one episode has aired thus far.
