  • ABC’s “Frightline in Salem” explores Salem’s supernatural history and modern-day witches.
  • Descendants of people accused in the witch trials discuss their efforts to clear their ancestors’ names.
  • The special also explores Salem’s self-described vampire community.

Just in time for Halloween, ABC’s Nightline is heading to one of America’s most famously haunted cities for a special spooky episode exploring the supernatural history of Salem. While the city’s infamous witch trials may be centuries in the past, it still seems the city has plenty of scary stories to tell.

Airing Friday, October 30, on ABC, just before Halloween, “Frightline in Salem” follows ABC News correspondent Ashan Singh as he explores the city’s supernatural side during its 400th anniversary celebration. Singh meets with modern-day witches to discover what modern-day witchcraft looks like in Salem today, while descendants of those accused during the infamous witch trials of the 1600s share their efforts to clear their ancestors’ names more than 300 years later.

Witches aren’t the only supernatural figures calling Salem home these days, either. The late-night special also pulls back the curtain on the city’s growing community of self-described real-life vampires, exploring the people who embrace the vampiric lifestyle.

Viewers will even get an inside look at an elaborate vampire ball, described as the “Met Gala of the vampire community,” where attendees gather to celebrate their shared fascination with the creatures of the night that has captured the imagination of fans for hundreds of years.

Blending Salem’s dark history with its modern-day residents, “Frightline in Salem” explores how a city once notorious for persecuting alleged witches has become a destination for those who embrace the supernatural.

Anchored by Juju Chang and Byron Pitts, ABC News’ Nightline takes viewers beyond the headlines with in-depth reporting, exclusive interviews, and stories covering everything from breaking news to pop culture. Singh, a two-time Emmy-nominated ABC News correspondent, contributes to both Nightline and IMPACT x Nightline.
