What To Know

  • CNN correspondent Jamie Gangel warned that President Trump appears to be laying the groundwork for Jan. 6 “2.0.”
  • Recent polls predict the Democrats will take control of the House and the Senate in the midterm elections.
  • The CNN panel discussed Trump’s ongoing efforts to undermine election integrity.

CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel believes that President Donald Trump is setting the stage for a repeat of the January 6 Capitol riots if the upcoming midterms don’t go his way.

Gangel made the comments on Monday’s (October 26) edition of The Arena with Kasie Hunt. The panel was discussing Trump’s attempts to undermine election integrity, including threats of sending ICE agents to monitor polling stations and prosecuting election officials who disregard his administration’s policies.

A major topic surrounded non-citizens voting in the elections, an agenda Trump has continued to push in recent months. However, the data isn’t there to back up the president’s claims of illegal voting.

“Let’s look at Nevada, for example,” former Joe Biden official Kate Bedingfield said on Monday’s show, per Mediaite. “This summer, you had DHS accuse the state of Nevada of having 15,000 non-voting citizens or non-citizens voting.”

Bedingfield explained that Nevada looked into it and found no evidence of non-citizens voting. “DHS said, ‘well, we looked again, and actually, it’s just 185.’ And Nevada said, okay, and looked into those 185 and said, there’s no evidence that these are non-citizens. So this is essentially a charade,” she stated.

Former Trump official Mike Dubke said there are cases of non-citizens voting in elections but admitted: “They’re relatively small.”

Bedingfield said the president is trying to “juice this narrative up in advance of, and then after an election that seems like it’s not going to go very well for his party.”

Recent polls predict a “blue wave” for the Democrats in the midterm elections, with the party set to take back control of the House and the Senate.

Gangel added her thoughts, making her bold claim about what she believes Trump is planning. “Just to underscore, that this is about Donald Trump trying to undermine election integrity,” she said. “January 6th was not a hallucination. This feels as if he’s setting the stage for 2.0.”

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., in protest of Trump’s loss to Biden in the 2020 presidential election. This followed the president’s false claims that the election had been stolen. At the time, critics claimed that Trump’s rhetoric stoked the riots.
