‘Halloweentown 5’ In Early Development at Disney — Everything We Know

Get to the bus stop quickly because Halloweentown 5 is in early development at Disney. The fifth movie will come out more than 20 years after the fourth one.

Halloweentown centers on a young witch named Marnie Piper (Kimberly J. Brown), who discovers she has magic on her 13th birthday. She travels with her grandmother, Aggie Cromwell (Debbie Reynolds), to the magical town filled with supernatural creatures to try to save the world. Throughout the films, Marnie continues to help the magical world and the real world as she becomes one of the most powerful witches of her time.

The Disney Channel Original Movie sparked three sequels — Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, Halloweentown High, and Return to Halloweentown. The last film had Sara Paxton star as Marnie.

Here is everything we know about Halloweentown 5.

When will the movie be released?

An official date has not been announced for the upcoming movie, which is being written by Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn, based on characters by Paul Bernbaum, who wrote the original 1998 film, according to The Wrap.

What will Halloweentown 5 be about?

The movie has not been officially greenlit, no plot details have been released, and the official title is unknown; however, check back later for more details. (We suspect Marnie will be teaching her children how to use their magic in this installment, but we’ll have to wait and see!)

Who will star in Halloweentown 5?

No official cast list has been released. However, Reynolds cannot appear in the film, as she died in 2016. Chances are, there will be some kind of nod to her, but whether Brown or Paxton will return as Marnie is up in the air. (Brown has expressed interest in returning to the franchise in the past. She is married to Daniel Kountz, who played Kal, Kalabar’s son, in the second film.)

Disney Channel

Judith Hoag played Gwen, Marnie’s mother. Joey Zimmerman played Dylan, Marnie’s brother, in the films. Her sister, Sophie, was played by Emily Roeske, who decided to retire from acting after the third film, so she would most likely not be in it.

The franchise also starred supporting actors Phillip Van Dyke, Lucas Grabeel, Robin Thomas, Richard Side, and more.

Would Halloweentown 5 be released in theaters?

No. If greenlit, Halloweentown 5 would air on Disney Channel and Disney+. All four of the movies are available to stream on Disney+.
