Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is letting the world know that she doesn’t believe her partner Ken Urker died by suicide and is petitioning for a new law to fight against online harassment.
The reality star recently updated her Change.org petition, which she created in Urker’s memory “to advocate for meaningful change in how social-media platforms respond to repeated online harassment.” In a section about Urker’s October 1 passing, Blanchard claims his death was “not suicide.”
“Ken recently passed away, official cause of death is pending toxicology results however we do know with 100% certainly that it was not suicide,” Blanchard wrote. “Regardless this petition is not about the cause of death itself. It is about the extreme cyber bullying that lead up to his passing.”
She went on to say that cyberbullying “played a huge role in damaging Ken‘s mental health,” which led him “to use unhealthy coping strategies such as drugs and alcohol.”
The original version of the post read, “Ken recently died following a suspected overdose. At this time, we do not know whether the overdose was intentional, and I will not speculate about circumstances that have not been determined.”
Urker was found dead at his home on Thursday, October 1, his 34th birthday. Deputies from the Lafourche Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at approximately 6:15 pm, where they found Urker dead upon arrival at the residence. An investigation into Urker’s death is ongoing.
Blanchard was serving a 10-year prison sentence for her role in the death of her mother, Dee Dee, when she first connected with Urker. Growing up, Blanchard was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder where a parent or guardian either makes up fake symptoms or causes real symptoms to make it look like the child is sick.
Urker proposed in October 2018, but the engagement was later called off, and eventually, the pair went their separate ways. Blanchard later married Ryan Anderson, but shortly after her December 2023 release from prison, she filed for divorce. She rekindled her romance with Urker in April 2024 and, eight months later, they welcomed a daughter, Aurora.
Blanchard said Urker faced relentless public scrutiny and she “often found [him] reading negative comments, watching videos that featured commentary that was hateful, slander and demeaning.” She added, “This had a profound negative impact on his mental health.”
She is now campaigning to introduce Kenan’s Law (Urker’s legal name was Kenan), which would advocate for “Pattern-based harassment reporting,” “human review and meaningful appeals for serious or repeated cases,” and “greater transparency and accountability from major social-media platforms.”
Blanchard specifically named the Reddit subforum r/GRBsnark, calling for a review of “its history, and the reports involving Ken and our family, and take appropriate action based on the complete pattern of conduct.”
