Match Game has gone through many iterations and was revived in 2025 with Martin Short. Will the game show return after taking a year off?

The game show was revived in 2025 with Short, who also served as executive producer, after the first revival in 2016 was canceled in 2021 due to host Alec Baldwin‘s trial for the Rust shooting. According to Nielsen, the show brought in 3.3 million viewers. The first season with Short aired in the summer. Since the rest of the year’s lineup has already been announced, the game show, if it is renewed, probably wouldn’t air for a while.

Match Game received a Real Screen Award nomination for Outstanding Competition Show: Game & Quiz! So a renewal is not totally out of the question. The game show has two civilians playing to win $25,000. They have to answer fill-in-the-blank questions and match with the most celebrities on the panel in order to win and take home money with two games per an hour-long episode.

So, will the show come back for another season, which would technically be Season 7? Here is everything we know.

It is not clear who would host Match Game if it was picked up for another season. Short is busy filming the next season of Only Murders in the Building.
