What To Know

  • Nicole Curtis got emotional while reflecting on the 16th anniversary of Rehab Addict.
  • The home renovation series, which premiered in 2010, followed Curtis as she gave old houses new life.
  • HGTV canceled the series earlier this year after footage of Curtis using a racial slur on set was leaked online.

Nicole Curtis celebrated a bittersweet anniversary for her now-canceled HGTV series Rehab Addict.

In a Saturday, October 10, Instagram post, Curtis wrote, “16 years ago, my show played first time 10/10/10. I thought I’d be okay, but it hit hard. Years of my life that I’ll never get back.”

She continued, “Today, I thought about [the] rocket launch my oldest was doing at school that I was told could not be scheduled around in year one. The network needed my promos shot and back then I didn’t know to say no. Of all the things i gained, I missed the rocket launch (for that I can say I harbor some hate 100 percent).”

Curtis shares her two sons, Ethan and Harper, with previous partners. The post featured a photo of Curtis with one of her sons, along with snaps of Rehab Addict promo pics from over the years.

Fans shared their support for the host and Rehab Addict in the post’s comments. “You did NOT waste those years!! You taught so many people so much about home refurbishment and taught your son a lot of valuable lessons at the same time,” one person wrote.

Another added, “Most of [us] have no idea what is required to make a TV show. Just about every job we have requires us to lose time, miss special events with our family. I admire your work. I learned a lot about home reno from your tv show.”

Someone else shared, “You don’t need hgtv for anything ..you could kill on YouTube or other platforms.” A different person posted, “I still have your last 2 shows saved on my DVR. You have also had my respect from day one. Thank you for sharing your journey. You know that saying, when one door closes, a cool untouched 100 year old door opens.”

Rehab Addict premiered on HGTV in 2010. The series followed Curtis as she gave run-down, historic homes in Michigan and Minnesota new life. The show later launched spinoffs, including Rehab Addict Rescue and Rehab Addict Lake House Rescue.

HGTV pulled the plug on Rehab Addict shortly after the show returned for Season 9 in February. The cancellation came after a video of Curtis using a racial slur on set leaked online. HGTV also pulled the show from air and most streaming platforms.

Curtis apologized in a statement to TMZ at the time, saying, “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”

Curtis also claimed in a February 17 Instagram post that someone she knew leaked the footage. “Someone personal (not crew) had access, demanded $, I didn’t pay-here we are,” she alleged. Since the show ended, Curtis has continued to share updates about her home renovation work on social media.
