Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is back and testing everyone’s ability to lie in the Season 3 opener, “Feminine Wiles and Some Tire Thing in Lubbock.” Warning: Spoilers for the Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 3 Premiere!
After giving Mary (Zoe Perry) an ultimatum to stop seeing Fagenbacher (Matt Letscher) or risk losing access to her granddaughter, Georgie (Montana Jordan) returned home to the McAllisters, who were less understanding of his viewpoint than he’d hoped, but claimed they’d support him. The promise to stand by Georgie only lasted so long, though, as Mandy (Emily Osment), Jim (Will Sasso), and even Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones) were driven to bring CeeCee (Isabelle and Zariah Booko) over to her house for visits behind Georgie’s back in the installment.
While Audrey would normally be eager to cut Mary out, executive producer Steve Holland admits that the backstabbing action of taking CeeCee to see Mary was born in the writers’ room. “We knew that Mandy was going to take CeeCee behind Georgie’s back and that was going to be their big secret. And then it sort of came up as a fun joke that Jim was going to take her because he was alone with her watching the game. And then we were just like, is there any world where Audrey would do it, because that would be such a big move if we could get there.”

Ultimately, Holland says, “[Audrey] realizing that if someone took CeeCee away from her, what would that feel like, and that her and Mary’s relationship is fraught enough that it’s possible would be a good moment to drive her there. Those two characters are so often at odds that to put them on the same side, even tentatively, seemed really fun,” Holland explains.
While the McAllisters were keeping that secret from Georgie, he had one of his own as he covered for Connor (Dougie Baldwin) after he was arrested in Lubbock for marijuana and ditched by his band. He ultimately bailed him out and promised not to tell Mandy or his parents about the ordeal, but the effort to keep that secret was dashed when Georgie returned home to learn that Connor’s girlfriend had popped up to check on him after the arrest, blowing his cover after he deposited his brother-in-law at Ruben’s (Jessie Prez).
His secret began to blow up just as his outrage over learning about the Mary betrayal began to pop off, which led to a stalemate. As for whether Georgie would have kept Connor’s arrest a secret long term, Holland says, “I think both Georgie and Mary are similar in the way that they’re both incredibly stubborn. So yeah, I think they both would have both tried to out-stubborn each other.”
In the end, Georgie was driven to put his feelings aside and allow CeeCee to see Mary, but for now, don’t expect tensions to lessen. “Our thought in that last scene was that he is conceding that CeeCee shouldn’t be put in the middle and CeeCee shouldn’t be made to suffer, but he still has nothing to say to his mother as long as she’s dating Fagenbacher, so their tensions continue,” Holland continues.
And if you noticed that CeeCee was playing a bigger role than before, that’s by design, as Holland reveals, “We really didn’t know what to expect. The Booko twins are three, like CeeCee, and we were hopeful that they would be able to do a little more this year. Chuck [Lorre]’s position is: If we have babies, don’t just use them as props; let’s see if they can do things, and they were terrific.”
Holland teases fans will see even more from the duo playing CeeCee as Season 3 continues. Stay tuned to see what happens next for Mary and Georgie, and let us know what you thought of the hilarious premiere episode in the comments section below.
