What To Know

  • Eric Stonestreet will return to his role as Al Walker a.k.a. Rapunzel in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
  • The actor surprised fans at the series’ NYCC panel with the news and the first look at his return.

Hide your ponytails because the serial killer known as Rapunzel is back in action for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. Paramount+ has now confirmed that Eric Stonestreet will indeed return to his role as Al Walker a.k.a. Rapunzel, the lone member of Leon Prater’s (Peter Dinklage) killer club that survived Dexter Morgan’s (Michael C. Hall) elimination spree in Season 1. A first-look photo of their reunion was shared by the streamer.

The news of Stonestreet’s return coincided with the Dexter: Resurrection panel at New York Comic-Con on Thursday (October 8), featuring Hall with costars Uma Thurman (also returning to her Resurrection role as Charley), James Remar (who plays Harry Morgan’s ghost-slash-mental apparition), Jack Alcott (Harrison), Bokeem Woodbine (new character Capt. Mixon), and Krysten Ritter (returning from the grave as Mia LaPierre, apparently!). Showrunner Clyde Phillips also joined the panel with executive producers Scott Reynolds and Marcos Siega. Stonestreet was a surprise addition to the panel to make his big return reveal.

Al was introduced in Season 1 as a member of Prater’s killer club, alongside Mia a.k.a. Lady Vengeance, Gareth a.k.a. Gemini Killer (David Dastmalchian), and Lowell Sloane a.k.a. the Tattoo Collector (Neil Patrick Harris). After Dexter, posing as Red a.k.a. the Dark Passenger, infiltrated the club, he began to take its members out one by one, but Al managed to escape New York to return to the Midwest where his blissfully unaware family awaited.

Rapunzel was so named because he targeted victims with ponytails and cut their hair off to collect as his souvenirs.

TV Insider previously caught up with Stonestreet to talk about his role in the Dexter spinoff, and he shared his belief that, despite narrowly escaping Dexter’s clutches and watching as his friends all disappeared one by one, Rapunzel didn’t know that Dexter was behind all of it.

He also hinted at his potential to return to the role, saying, “Nobody really ever gets away from Dexter. That’s a reality. I mean, when I was sitting there, on set, I was like, ‘How many people have gotten away from Dexter?’ And producers are like, ‘Not many.’ So who knows what’s in Al’s future is all I can say about that.”
