‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Stars Unpack Deadly Premiere & New Villain

Dexter Resurrection premiere interview

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is back, and he’s been a busy, busy boy since we last saw him in Dexter: Resurrection. Warning: Spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2’s premiere ahead!

The Season 2 premiere sees Dexter still carrying out his mission to rid the world of serial killers — save for himself, of course — and he’s taken out some already from Prater’s list: the Midnight Wrangler, who captured people, held them hostage for weeks, and broke all of their bones one by one to torture them and was axed in the chest in Seattle; and the Yonkers Slayer, a Satanist who murdered more than 20 people claiming the Devil made him do it. He’s even having dreams of slaying slayers alongside his late, great pal Angel Batista (David Zayas).

On top of that, things are great with him and Harrison (Jack Alcott), who’s just finished NYPD academy training and is days from being assigned to his unit. However, things get complicated for Dexter when he finally tracks down Al Walker a.k.a. Rapunzel (Eric Stonestreet), who’s still very active in his ponytail fetish murder spree.

Dexter tracks Al down to a KOA park where he’s been living the picturesque family life by day and hunting women at night. Dexter, still cosplaying as Red, lures Al away from his megacamper by saying he just needs some like-minded company, and he takes him to an abandoned store where he’s set up his kill shop. What Dexter doesn’t expect, though, is for Rapunzel to be ready for him, and what results is a very tough fight.

In the end, Dexter emerges victorious, leaving Al dangling alongside his souvenirs so his true identity will be revealed. However, Michael C. Hall relishes the fact that it wasn’t as easy for him as he expected. “It was something that maybe hit home for Dexter, the reality of his capability or lack thereof…. someone he thought he would be able to easily vanquish,” the actor tells TV Insider in the above video interview. “He turned up, turned into a basically fight to the death on a concrete floor. But it was wonderful working with Eric again. He’s fantastic, and he’s a just effortlessly hilarious person, so he’s very fun to be around.”

Also in the premiere, we get our first introduction to some new characters, including Don Framt a.k.a. the New York Ripper (Brian Cox). With a name like that, fans might be expecting someone ghoulish, but instead, he’s a feisty little creep, and the actor portraying him went all-in on his wildcard persona.

Brian Cox tells us, “That’s all I came to do, was give in to it. He’s such a despicable, horrible human being. In fact, I’m not even sure if he’s a human being. He’s a sort of creature, and I just had to give in to that. And I thought there was no question of understanding my motivation or understanding any of that normal stuff, which tends to help actors but sometimes plagues them at the same time. So I just let it go, and I still don’t know where he came from. I’m still as baffled as ever, because it kind of was scary. It’s scary that this creature, I could tap into him in the way I did, and I felt that maybe I should have therapy once I’m done with the show.”
