‘The View’ Hosts Celebrate Joy Behar’s Birthday Amid Injury-Related Absence

On Wednesday (October 7), the cohosts of The View celebrated the birthday of one of their own — even though she wasn’t available to be there herself.

Joy Behar turned 84 on Wednesday, and cohosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin were on hand to wish the series OG well in her absence, as she recovers from a dislocated shoulder injury.

“So the first thing we want to do, right off the bat, is we want to with Joy Behar a happy birthday,” Whoopi Goldberg announced at the top of the hour. She then revealed that they had a message to share from Behar herself, who said, “Despite sharing a birthday with Vladimir Putin, she does not have the Russian plague.”

Goldberg then continued, “She’s still healing up after dislocating her shoulder. So what we’re saying is, get better fast so we can celebrate you back here on The View.”

Goldberg then said she missed Behar during their recording of a live Behind the Table podcast event in New York City, and she said, “Yes, Joy, I sat in for you. So there we are,” referencing the fact that Behar usually steps in as moderator on Goldberg’s behalf during absences, most recently while she was filming her Netflix movie in the Big Apple.

“I’m still getting over the fact that Joy shares a birthday with Vladimir Putin,” Navarro joked.

Griffin then noted, “I share a birthday with Xi Jinping, so yeah, dictators and The View hosts!”

Behar’s injury was first reported on October 1 when she was unexpectedly absent from The View‘s live panel. Since Goldberg was still absent herself due to the movie shoot, Hostin stepped in as substitute moderator for the day, explaining, “So Whoopi [Goldberg] is still out filming a movie, and unfortunately, our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder. Yeah, so she’s recovering and will be back soon.” Haines then filled in as moderator the following day in Behar’s continued absence.

Goldberg’s transmission on Wednesday was the first time Behar has publicly commented on the injury. She previously missed several episodes of The View due to a foot injury in 2025.
