Former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera has criticized President Donald Trump and his family over the billions of dollars they have reportedly made through side ventures, calling it “the most outrageously corrupt situation we’ve ever seen.”
Rivera joined CNN anchor Abby Phillip and guests on Saturday’s (October 3) edition of Table For Five, where the Trump family’s rapidly growing wealth was the main topic of discussion. “[Trump] is unapologetic about it,” Rivera said, per RawStory. “He thinks that as long as it’s not illegal, let the good times roll.”
He pointed to Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., who have made billions through cryptocurrency and private equity investments. Kushner, who serves as a volunteer Middle East peace envoy, has faced questions surrounding conflict of interest after his firm, Affinity Partners, acquired a significant stake in Israel’s Phoenix Financial.
“The fact that Jared and Eric and Don Jr. are making all this money with all of these, you know, side businesses, [Trump] thinks that’s the American way,” Rivera added. “And I look at it, and it’s the most outrageously corrupt situation we’ve seen ever. Ever.”
He continued, “You’ve never had a situation where people’s wealth has increased by the billions. And when it plays out at the same time as Congress not passing the insider trader law, where they can still own stocks and trade stocks even though they’re in office and affecting what happens to the value of the thing being discussed.”
Rivera said there is a “shamelessness to it,” describing the situation as “really tawdry.”
The long-time political commentator did mention a “saving grace,” noting that he’s in favor of “these monumental buildings that are going on… I’m in favor of Washington being over-policed and gold-leaf being used in Oval Offices. I don’t mind at all that the city looks good and that the monuments will far outlive him. I’m proud of him for that.”
“But the scummy thing is, what they’re doing with this side money, they’re raking it in by the barrelfuls, and people who are in a tight situation, those are the ones who are most affected and most hurt by it,” Rivera
