What To Know

  • NCIS: New York is the latest series in the successful franchise.
  • Will it include a will they/won’t they couple like the others?

Something that every NCIS show has had is a will they/won’t they couple. For example, the mothership had Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo), NCIS: LA had Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), and Origins has Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and Lala (Mariel Molino). Will the newest series in the franchise, NCIS: New York, have one on the team that Sam Hanna (LA‘s LL COOL J) is joining? Well, Wyatt (Shane Harper) and Addy (Jacqueline Byers) certainly seem like they could fit the bill.

For now, Byers said that Addy’s just having fun ribbing Wyatt. “I think there’s moments where she’s like, ‘Wait, hot,'” she admitted to TV Insider on the NCIS: New York premiere red carpet on Thursday, October 1. “But it’s not very often.”

Showrunner Byron Balasco told us for our digital cover, “Opposites do attract sometimes, don’t they?” And when we caught up with him on the carpet, he said, “We keep it really organic. So we have a plan, but I also like to follow the writing and see how everything’s playing and everything’s going to kind of figure out how you want to pace that out. But they have incredible chemistry together. And so listen, people work together in close proximity. Things happen.”

Wyatt is the “fish out of water” of the team, having come from Alaska and still getting used to the big city. “A very smart, capable guy, but this just isn’t where he came from. And he’s an excellent agent, but he’s trying to find his way personally in this city and figure out how to live and be a citizen of this city and away from home. And life takes you in new directions and he’s sort of struggling, but also finding his way through that,” Balasco shared.

“And he is doing that with the help of Addy, who is a kind of formidable, tough woman from a military family. I think of her as the youngest of four with three older brothers. She grew up in a house where if you ordered a pizza, you better dive on that slice you want or else it’s going to be gone. So she’s always fighting and scrapping for her place, and she’s really excellent at her job,” he continued. “So together, they’re going to bring different things out of each other. I mean, Wyatt gets made fun of a lot by Addy, but he’s in on it. He knows who he is. He doesn’t have a problem with who he is. You know what I mean? But he also knows that New York’s opened his eyes to new ways of thinking as well.”
