What To Know

  • NCIS: New York premiered to 5.62 million viewers.
  • CBS has already given it a 20-episode order.

NCIS: New York has gotten off to a promising start for CBS. It seems like the all-NCIS night is continuing to work, and the newest spinoff in the hit franchise has slotted right in and is keeping people watching.

The series that brought LL COOL J back as Sam Hanna, now partnered with Scott Caan‘s Nick Schaeffer, got off to a strong start, with all three shows in the franchise the top three most-watched scripted broadcast programs for Tuesday, October 6. New York was the night’s second most watched-scripted broadcast program, with an average of 5.62 million viewers. That number was up 53% to last year’s NCIS: Origins time period premiere and 50% from Origins‘ year-ago season average.

Then, when looking at Nielsen live plus 7-days of multiplatform viewership for the premiere, 10.25 million had tuned in, an increase of 58% from Origins last year. That’s also the most viewers across that period for fall’s new shows (except for Newlyweds, for which that data was not yet available).

CBS

In general, numbers seem to be steady for NCIS: New York, averaging about a 0.37 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.18 million viewers across the first three episodes. It’s been one of the most-watched shows on Tuesdays, and it seems likely that those numbers won’t fluctuate too much.

The NCIS spinoff has already gotten a 20-episode order, meaning that it already has a full season — NBC just gave Line of Fire a pickup for just that — and the only announcement about its future would be a renewal. It seems likely it will get a second season unless there are any major changes to the ratings over the next few months. But NCIS in general seems to do well for the network, especially the three-show night on Tuesdays now, so chances are looking good.
