‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Slam Contestants Over Lack of Dolly Parton Knowledge
Jeopardy! fans were shocked by the contestants lack of Dolly Parton knowledge when the show had a special category about the late country music icon.
Justin Robbins, from Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Kristin Franke, from Washington, D.C., and Ben Meyerson, from New York, New York, played against each other on September 30. Franke, a pastor, won the game, but not before any of them knew the clues about Parton, who died on August 25 at the age of 80.
The category was “Remembering Dolly Parton.” Robbins, a graduate student, knew that the town where Parton opened Dollywood near where she grew up was Pigeon Forge. He also knew that her book-giving program was called the Imagination Library.
Franke didn’t know that Parton’s rise to fame began with “I Will Always Love You,” in which she partnered with Porter Wagoner. Franke thought it was her song “Jolene.” However, Robbins swooped in with the correct response.

Robbins incorrectly answered the Daily Double clue. “Inspired by a patchwork garment that her mother made for her from rags, Dolly wrote this song, a personal favorite” was the clue. He answered with “What is ‘Jolene’?” but the correct response was “Coat of Many Colors.”
However, the one that upset fans the most was the “9 to 5” answer. “In 1980, Dolly made her big-screen acting debut in this film; almost 30 years later, she wrote the songs for the Broadway musical,” read the clue. None of the game show contestants gave an answer, making it a Triple Stumper.
Fans took to social media to comment on their shock. “They didn’t remember 9 to 5???! OPEN THE SCHOOLS,” an Instagram user commented.
“I’m not even a legal adult, and I know it,” a fan replied.
“They in fact did NOT remember Dolly Parton. Whew, that was tough to watch,” another said.
“Very tough to watch,” another replied.
“These people had me nearly throwing my phone against the wall,” an angry fan wrote.
“This is borderline rage bait. How did they not know these answers?!” another said.
“Looks more like these three were FORGETTING Dolly Parton,” a fan said with a facepalm emoji.
“These people make me angry, but Dolly wouldn’t want that, so I forgive them,” a fan said.
“Well, she said that she wanted to be remembered for the books, and that was 1/2 of the answers they actually knew,” one last fan commented.
