‘Ghosts’: Will Rose McIver Return for Season 6? Star Explains Partial Absence

Ghosts may not return with new episodes until later this October, when the back-to-back half-hour installments make up the first-ever hour-long Halloween special, but in the meantime, fans should look forward to one character being partially absent, and no, it’s not Pete (Richie Moriarty).

Despite the ghost’s disappearance at the end of Season 5, that’s not the only disappearing act going on, as Rose McIver, who plays the living B&B proprietor Sam, takes a step back from the spotlight for more personal reasons, as she revealed on Instagram on September 25. While the show previously teased Sam’s latest gig of adapting her writing into some made-for-TV movies, it seems that the plot is working around McIver’s own family plans.

“Keen-eyed viewers will notice that Sam is a little absent at the start of this season of Ghosts,” McIver wrote on social media. “I’ve been a wee bit preoccupied but will be back to join everyone soon! Huge thanks to everyone for your patience. I love both my jobs and feel really fortunate to be supported in both.”

Alongside the caption was the image of McIver holding a tiny hand, hinting that she’d just given birth to her second child. As some fans may recall, McIver was pregnant during Season 3’s run as well.

Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like McIver’s Sam would have missed too much, as the main portion of Season 6 won’t begin airing until the new year, with just one other holiday special after the Halloween episodes. But in case fans need reminding as they dive into Season 6, it seems that Sam’s absence is mostly due to McIver taking a step back for her family before returning for some delightfully ghoulish fun.

In the meantime, as Sam remains on the periphery in the show, viewers will get to see new series regular Ben Feldman return in his role as Kyle, the living man who can see ghosts, just like Sam.

What shenanigans will he be forced into? Only time will tell, but stay tuned to see how Ghosts handles McIver’s absence and get ready for her return when Ghosts makes its Season 6 comeback on CBS.
