Christina Applegate Shows Off Fresh New Look in Rare Instagram After 4-Month Hospital Stay

Christina Applegate has mostly been quiet on social media since she was hospitalized amid ongoing medical issues earlier this year. But on September 21, she gave fans a glimpse of herself for the first time in months.

In a new video posted to her Instagram, Applegate showed off a recent hair dye job. Wearing a tank top and sweatshirt hanging off her shoulder, the actress put her blonde hair on display as she looked directly at the camera before sheepishly smiling and turning her head to the side.

“Fresh hair color, new weird spot on my cheek haha,” she captioned the clip, referring to a red mark on her face. “Thank you @davestanwell for brightening up my cloudy day. Love you and love to you all out there.”

Applegate, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2021, was hospitalized at the end of March. After news of her hospitalization was publicized the following month, she explained in an Instagram post, “Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day. I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”

In the months that followed, Applegate has rarely posted on social media, and none of her photos or videos have been new (she did share a throwback video with her daughter and a BTS pic from her memoir photo shoot). The reason for her hospitalization was never confirmed, but TMZ reported in early August that Applegate had returned home.

Fans flooded the comments section of Applegate’s new update with supportive messages. “She is looking back to herself and still dealing with a horrible debilitating disease,” someone wrote, and another commenter said, “I hope you soon have many days where your body stays at a manageable baseline for you. Much love from a longtime fan.”

Another fan also said, “Do you know how difficult it is, how vulnerable she is making herself, exposing all her insecurities to millions? Brave, is an understatement.”
