What To Know

  • Kelly Monaco shared a rare update with fans and revealed she’s more than six months sober.
  • Monaco has mostly kept out of the public eye since leaving General Hospital in 2024.
  • She has not appeared in a film or television show following her exit and rarely posts on social media.

Kelly Monaco has mostly stayed out of the public eye since leaving General Hospital in 2024, but she shared a rare and major update with fans earlier this week.

Monaco shared a screenshot from a sobriety tracking app that said, “I’ve been alcohol free for 6 months and 7 days.” She captioned it, “Now the whole 6/7 thing makes sense! #duces,” and did not elaborate on her sobriety journey.

In August 2024, it was confirmed that Monaco would be leaving General Hospital after 21 years of playing Sam McCall. She filmed her final episode the following month and it aired on November 1, 2024.

Since then, she has kept a very low profile and only posted on Instagram six times, including her latest sobriety milestone. This comes after she previously announced a podcast with Shanna Moakler in March 2025, which never came to fruition.

In July of last year, Moakler gave some insight into why the podcast was no longer happening. When a fan commented on her Instagram post asking for an update on the pod, she replied, “We are not doing it. She is dealing with some personal things.” One month later, she said the podcast had been canceled because Monaco “has other work opportunities.”

Aside from the 2025 podcast announcement, all of Monaco’s post-General Hospital Instagram posts have been from the past four months. She returned to the social media app for her 50th birthday in May when she posted a video of herself working out with her nephew. “Today I turned 50!” Monaco wrote. “There’s no place like home… coach @__monaco getting me back in shape.”

In early August, she shared photos from her visit to the Philadelphia Eagles’ training camp, followed by another workout shot on September 1 and a birthday tribute to her mom on September 11.

Monaco has not made any television or film appearances since leaving GH, although she did attend the Dancing With the Stars 20th birthday celebration episode in 2025. She also participated in a retrospective interview for Entertainment Weekly around that time.
