Joe Scarborough Urges Trump to ‘Get Rid’ of ‘Runaway Beer Truck’ Pete Hegseth

MS NOW anchor Joe Scarborough let loose on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday’s (September 16) Morning Joe, urging President Donald Trump to “get rid of that guy.”

The panel was discussing the ongoing Iran war and recent reporting from CBS News about damage to U.S. military bases across the Middle East. According to one deployed service member, the American public hasn’t been fully informed about the Iranian missile and drone strikes.

Morning Joe cohost Jonathan Lemire said these stories “paint a very, very negative light of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth,” per Mediaite. “And there are certainly those in the administration who are trying to push him out, but he still has the only defender that really matters, at least for now, in President Trump.”

Scarborough cut in to ask why Trump “would continue to defend a guy that caused his first real problem his first year, when things were going well for him, with Signalgate going, ‘Hey, guys. Hey [Atlantic editor] Jeffrey Goldberg, we’re about to launch a secret attack.'”

“And then he screwed up munitions; he pushed the president into war along with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu,” he continued.

Scarborough’s wife and cohost Mika Brzezinski added, “None surprising because [Hegseth] was not qualified for the job and there were many other concerning issues about his ability to do the job in a complete and completely put-together fashion.”

Brzezinski’s turn of phrase amused Scarborough, who repeated, “Put-together fashion!”

“Want me to say it?” Brzezinski replied. “Sober!”

“Of sober character, exactly,” Scarborough responded. “But we talked about how [White House chief of staff] Susie Wiles didn’t like him from the start because he lied from the start. He even lied in the transition.”

Scarborough then took a personal dig, pointing to the reports of Hegseth’s past drinking problems. “As we say in northwest Florida, ‘Look at him! He’s a runaway beer truck!'” the host said. “Like you don’t want to see a runaway beer truck in northwest Florida, and you sure don’t want to see it run your Pentagon. But that’s what we have!”

“And the biggest cheerleader of a war that will forever define Donald Trump’s presidency in the night of light,” Scarborough continued. “He’s the guy right there that Donald Trump, you know, get rid of that guy and a lot of your problems at the Pentagon go away. Get somebody who actually knows what they’re doing.”
