Matthew Riggle started Season 43 of Jeopardy! with a win after making a shocking final wager. Find out if he continued his streak in game four.

Riggle, from Madison, Alabama, played his fourth game on September 15 against Abby Mullen, from Greenville, South Carolina, and Wesley Jalipa, from Columbia, Missouri. WARNING: This post contains spoilers about the Tuesday, September 15 episode of Jeopardy!. 

Riggle, a community college math professor, went on a tear at the beginning of the round. He ran a category and got six clues right for $3,200.

Jalipa, a legal assistant, found the Daily Double on clue eight. He had $800 and wagered the allotted $1,000 in “Cities on the River.”

The clue was “Atchison & Bismarck.” “What’s uh Missouri?” he answered, unsure, but he was correct, giving himself $1,800.

By the first 15 clues, Riggle had the lead with $4,600. At the end of the round, he had $7,200.

Jalipa was in second place with $4,400. Mullen, a professor, had $1,400.

In Double Jeopardy, Jalipa found the first DD on clue four. He had $4,800 and wagered all of his money. This would put him on top if he got it correct.

The clue in “Foreign Words and Phrases” read, “‘La Vita e Bella’ means this, a good thing to remember & the title of a 1997 film.” “What is Life is Beautiful?” he answered. He had $9,600.

On clue 10, Riggle found the last DD. He had $14,800 and wagered $3,000. The clue in “Mythology” read, “The intersection of the Venn diagram of names of flightless birds & Titan goddess; this 4-letter one.”

“What is Rhea?” he answered correctly. This gave him $17,800.

By the end of the round, Riggle had the lead with $17,800. Jalipa had $11,600. Mullen was in third place with $7,400.

The Final Jeopardy clue in “Landmarks” was “The chief engineer for this West Coast landmark also designed gantries for the Saturn rockets.”

The correct response was the Space Needle, which all three game show contestants had. She wagered $7,300, giving her $14,700.

Jalipa wagered $3,201, giving her $14,801. Riggle’s wager of $5,401 brought him up to $23,201. This made him a four-day champion with a total of $95,602. He will return on Wednesday for his fifth game.
