Josh Peck to Host Food Network’s New Competition ‘Sweet Deceit’: What to Know
Food Network‘s latest competition series will be hosted by a familiar — and funny — face.
Actor and comedian Josh Peck will lead the brand-new series Sweet Deceit, which premieres on Food Network later this year. The show will follow three teams of contestants as they “search for deceptive, hyper-realistic sweets hiding in plain sight in real-world locations,” per the series’ official description.
“Sweet Deceit is a funny and highly visual new game show that puts a hilarious twist on the art of illusion and is the perfect addition to Food Network’s baking lineup,” Food Network’s president, Betsy Ayala, said in a press release statement. “Josh Peck is the perfect host to bring humor to every reveal, and fans will be amazed and shocked by what turns out to be edible as they guess alongside the teams from home.”
In a statement of his own, Peck said, “Sweet Deceit has all my favorite things: food, fun, and deception. The craftsmanship our cake artists put into their creations was unlike anything I’ve ever seen – the edible creations are unbelievable, watching teams literally put their money where their mouths are made, every reveal a blast. It’s a must-watch for the whole family.”

What is the premise of Sweet Deceit?
Similar to Netflix‘s Is It Cake?, the series will follow contestants as they try to distinguish everyday items from their dessert counterparts. “[Peck] commands the on-screen hijinks as he leads contestants through four rounds as they try to identify masterfully disguised sweets created by world-class cake artists,” the show’s description reads. “Escalating in difficulty round by round, the teams work together to determine what is cake and prove it with their teeth by biting into their best guess, all in pursuit of a total prize up to $12,000.”
How many episodes will be in Season 1 of Sweet Deceit?
The show’s debut run will consist of 16 total episodes, split into two, eight-episode halves. Beginning on October 5, the eight episodes of Sweet Deceit: Trick or Treat will be “set in locations including real-life haunted houses, a sinister movie set morgue, a kindergarten classroom Halloween party, the world-famous Magic Castle and more,” per the show’s synopsis.
The latter half of the season, Sweet Deceit: Holiday, will premiere on Monday, November 16, at 9/8c. The festive episodes will see bakers uncover hidden desserts in locations such as “a cozy cabin, a festive ice rink, Santa’s workshop and more,” per the show’s description.
Who is in the Sweet Deceit cast?
A lineup of edible illusion cake artists will join Peck throughout the show’s debut season, including Jose Barajas, Jonny “Jonny Cakes” Manganello, Andrew Fuller, Ashley Holt, April Julian, and Liz Marek.
