Line of Fire

Named a New York “Living Landmark” for his 19-season run on Law & Order, Sam Waterston returns to NBC in a guest role on the freshman procedural as former U.S. President Barnes. Six years ago, Barnes was saved from assassination during a rainy rally by Secret Service Agent Mike Hollingsworth (Peter Krause), but Mike has never shaken the suspicion that the wrong man went down for the crime. Which explains why he’d rather resign than give a speech lauding himself as a hero at the opening ceremony for Barnes’ presidential library. And also why Mike’s sons Micah (Tommy O’Brien) and Russ (Taylor Bloom) break protocol to snoop into the shooting in hopes of convincing their dad he’s wrong and that there wasn’t a cover-up. Elsewhere in the busy Hollingsworth family, FBI agent Clare (Kat Cunning) goes undercover as part of a phony married couple to learn why a whistleblower in protective custody keeps blowing his cover.
