New ‘NCIS’ Photos: See Michael Weatherly Back as Tony — What’s Different

Well, there’s something very familiar about seeing Michael Weatherly with that orange wall behind him. He returns to NCIS for its 24th season (premiering on October 6) for a major arc, and CBS has now released the first photos of him back on the mothership as Tony DiNozzo. See them above and below.
But as you can see in the photos, something is very different this time around: Look at that Visitor badge! It’s to be expected; after all, Tony is no longer an NCIS agent. But still, doesn’t he look right at home?
Weatherly’s Tony was part of the series since the beginning, going back to the two JAG episodes that served as a backdoor pilot for it. He was then a series regular through the Season 13 finale, at which point Tony left NCIS to raise his and Ziva’s (Cote de Pablo) daughter after her “death” (three years later, we learned she faked it). Weatherly and de Pablo then went on to star in their own spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which released one season on Paramount+. Weatherly has said that what happened on there will not be retconned when he returns to NCIS.

Last we saw Tony on the spinoff, he and Ziva were not only back together, but his name had also been cleared, meaning he could get back to work at his security company (hence being a visitor at the agency where he once worked). We’ll have to wait to see what he thinks of the friends and coworkers he knows and how they’ve changed, Tim McGee (Sean Murray) and Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), and what they think of the Tony he’s become in the years since he left and with what he and Ziva went through in Europe.
Plus, it’ll be interesting to see what his dynamics are like with those he doesn’t know — Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), Jessica Knight (Katrina Law), Alden Parker (Gary Cole), and Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover) — and what they think of him, based on what they may or may not have heard around the office.

I hope Tony is back for good! Finding that Ziva and him got married and Talia is back and in school. Lets cross fingers, maybe he becomes the new director of NCIS!

Very happy to see him back! He was a lot of fun! Really hope they don't get rid of Parker or Nick! Now we just need Gibbs back!

From what I have heard & read, you will kind of get your wish, but on the offshoot show about young Gibbs back in the day. We shall have to see if there is any interaction.

I hope Michael Weatherly behaves himself after his shocking behaviour on Bull, hope the writers have not discarded Vance to bring back Tony and diminish McGee's role.

The return of Tony is exciting, hope Ziva and Talli show up also. It will be interesting to see the interactions with the new team members since Tony left. Before Tony left NCIS he had toned things down a lot and seemed to acknowledge Tim’s role as the new lead. I don’t think Tim would make a good director, hope you find someone other than Laroach though. Is the Tony and Ziva series going to have more seasons.

Really glad Tony's back. He's hilarious and obnoxious but he's so funny. Wish he'd never left !! I haven't been able to even force myself to watch after he left. I did try to get thru episodes with Ducky but when he was gone I stopped watching. I can hardly stand this new cast. Of course McGhee and the Autopsy Gremlin are favorites but those others - gag me with a spoon !!
I get that it's tough coming in behind Abby and Gibbs, can't be replaced but that Kasie and the Walderamma guy r the PITTS !! And Katrina Law is just awful !! Every female in that role prior to her were great but Katrina is just ICK !! I tell u, I can't stomach the series as is but with DiNozzo coming back, I'll b tuning in and mb I'll catch up on past missed seasons...maybe...!!

I want to see the wedding of tony and ziva. I want to see tony with the wedding ring, the honeymoonand a little brother for tali, a third dinozzo.

Very unhappy that he’s back!! Never did like him and his obnoxious behavior. NCIS has been much better without him and Ziva. The current cast is fine just the way it is. Afraid I may have to stop watching.
