Nancy Guthrie: Is Wanted Arizona Murder Suspect ‘Porch Guy’?

As the Nancy Guthrie investigation approaches its seven month, with no updates on her whereabouts or potential suspects, social media users have taken to their own sleuthing, with some believing they’ve identified the infamous ‘Porch Guy.’

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today’s Savannah Guthrie, went missing on February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Investigators later released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect seen approaching Nancy’s home and tampering with the security camera. The FBI described the man as 5’9” to 5’10” tall, with an average build.

While the masked man hasn’t been identified, social media users began speculating over the weekend when the Pima County Sheriff’s Department issued an arrest warrant for a local murder suspect. The police are looking for Alex James Barnett, a 33-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of Tucson Police Cadet Carlos Ramirez.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, Barnett has a court record that includes domestic violence, burglary, theft, and child abuse.

The PCSD noted that one suspect had been arrested and a third had been located. As of writing, Barnett remains at large, with the police warning the public that he could be “armed and dangerous.”

After the PCSD shared the public assistance notice on social media, including a photo of Barnett, several X users began drawing comparisons between the suspect and the Porch Guy.

“Now I ain’t one to gossip, but these SHOES on the first guy seem eerily familiar and the second guy looks like a possibility in the Nancy Guthrie case too,” wrote one X commenter in reference to security footage of two suspects in the Ramirez murder. “NOT saying they’re connected but LOOK at him. His tats. His gait. His height & weight.”

“This guy got out of prison late 2025. Any connection to Nancy Guthrie? See the way he walks?” said another.

Another added, “That guy when he gets out of the vehicle walks like the perp for Nancy Guthrie! He swings his head around low and watch his walk as he walks away. 857 is saying that he’s old, but I see muscular arms.”

“Umm maybe it’s just my eyes but that guy when he looked down walking kinda resembled the guy caught on Nancy Guthrie security camera and where did he drop the other 2 off at,” one commenter added.

Another X user who has been closely following the Nancy Guthrie case posted a side-by-side analysis of Barnett and the Porch Guy.

Despite the online speculation, the PCSD has not announced any connection between the two cases and is treating them as entirely separate investigations.
