Stana Katic Sets Major TV Return With Wyatt Russell’s Apple TV Monsterverse Series

Castle fans have reason to celebrate: Stana Katic is returning for her first major TV role in 6 years.

Katic has joined Apple TV’s untitled young Lee Shaw series, an extension of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The project stars Wyatt Russell as a younger version of Lee Shaw, the role he shares with his father, Kurt Russell, on the flagship series.

Also joining the Monsterverse series is Connie Nielsen. According to Deadline, which first broke the news, details about both of their characters are being kept under wraps for now. Nielsen is currently starring in the MGM+ series Robin Hood as Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Katic, of course, is still best known to many TV fans as Detective Kate Beckett on Castle, starring opposite Nathan Fillion for eight seasons from 2009 to 2016. She later found another devoted following with the thriller Absentia, which earned renewed attention after finding an audience on Netflix. Katic starred in all three seasons of the series from 2017 to 2020, appearing in 30 episodes as FBI agent Emily Byrne, who returns after being declared dead following a six-year disappearance.

Since Absentia, Katic has appeared in projects including Justice Society: World War II and Justice League: Warworld, voicing Wonder Woman in both animated DC films. More recently, she starred in the Lifetime movie Kidnapped in Her Own Home: The Martha Carelli Story.

Her new Monsterverse role marks a notable return to episodic television and puts her right in the middle of a franchise filled with secret organizations, family mysteries and, naturally, Titans.

Apple TV’s upcoming Monsterverse spinoff series follows Colonel Lee Shaw in the ’80s after his time jump as the American operative heads a secret mission to stop the Soviets from unleashing a dangerous new Titan.
