‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’ Season 9: All About the Return Of Netflix’s F1 Doc

As Formula 1 enters its summer break and the second half of the 2026 season, fans are eager to know two things: Who will win the title, and when will the next season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive air?

Drive to Survive is one of Netflix’s most popular sports documentaries and is largely credited for spreading F1’s worldwide popularity, especially in the United States, which hosts three races this current season. Since the first season of Drive to Survive aired in 2019, the show has released 8 seasons on Netflix, with season 9 currently in production.

What is Drive to Survive?

Drive to Survive is an unscripted Netflix documentary series produced in collaboration with Formula One. Each season documents the most recent F1 championship, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the drivers, teams, and rivalries fueling the season that fans don’t necessarily get to see.

In addition, some F1 team principals, like Mercedes’s Toto Wolff, Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur, and Williams’s James Vowles might appear in individual interviews. Other names that might be featured include McLaren CEO Zak Brown, motorsports journalist and former F1 commentator Will Buxton, and former F1 champions like Nico Rosberg.

What is Drive to Survive about?

As the season is still happening, the storylines for Season 9 of Drive to Survive are still pending. However, we can expect to see episodes on teams adapting to major regulation changes at the start of the season, “silly season” speculation about driver resignations or transfers, and, of course, the championship fight, especially between Mercedes and Ferrari.

When will Season 9 of Drive to Survive air?

Netflix has not announced an official streaming date for season 9 of Drive to Survive. Following previous season release schedules, it should air in late February or early March, before the 2027 season opener.
