‘GMA’ Fans Gush Over Sam Champion’s Throwback Photo From Early Career Days

Sam Champion celebrated a colleague’s major career milestone by sharing a fun throwback photo of the two.

The Good Morning America host took to Instagram on Wednesday, July 29, to celebrate Lee Goldberg’s 30th anniversary at WABC-TV in New York City. “Congratulations @leegoldbergabc7 and @abc7ny! I can’t believe it’s been 30 years Lee! Please no more math,” Champion wrote. “Always had fun with you and always proud of your hard work. WOW! I do indeed remember those days you first arrived in the newsroom.. (now even in the old building!).”

Champion’s post featured an old photo from Champion’s time working with Goldberg at the NYC news affiliate. Goldberg smiled for the camera in a suit and tie, while a young Champion sported blonde hair and a turtleneck.

GMA fans couldn’t get over Champion’s throwback snap. “You were always my handsome giant Ken doll!!! Xoxo!!!!! We’re still in our mid 30s, right?!!!!” one user quipped in the post’s comments. “You never age- neither do I! @leegoldbergabc7 I can’t point to a day when mom and I haven’t admired your amazing flowers in your beautiful garden! We don’t trust anyone else to deliver the weather besides you 2 and the incredible @abcnews team xo.”

Another added, “Amazing. I’ve been at the same company for 36 years. I feel I have grown up with both of you.” Someone else shared, “Geez how handsome. is this from an international male catalog circa 90 something?”

A different person posted, “Look at these 2 gorgeous baby boys!! We are fortunate to have you good looking brilliant men to give us the weather scoop!” A separate commenter gushed, “No shortage of good hair! Handsome as ever, gentlemen.”

Another fan wrote, “Y’all don’t age! Happy Anniversary, Lee!” Someone else stated, “This is my teens memories in one picture.” One person commented, “What a great picture of you both! I remember when you both started.”

GMA‘s Lara Spencer also hopped in the comments, writing, “My guys.” ABC News’ Rebecca Jarvis lovingly called Champion and Goldberg “Bebes.”

Champion has been a GMA mainstay since 2006. He previously left the ABC morning show in 2013 to work for The Weather Channel, but returned to GMA in 2016. Prior to joining GMA, Champion worked at WABC-TV for 18 years, becoming the most-watched weatherman in the tri-state area, per his ABC News bio.

Champion began his broadcast career during college as an intern at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky, per his bio, and went on to work as a weekend weather anchor and reporter at WPSD-TV in Paducah, Kentucky.

WABC-TV celebrated Goldberg’s 30th anniversary at the station via Instagram on Wednesday. “Congratulations to WABC-TV chief meteorologist @leegoldbergabc7, who joined the Eyewitness News team on July 29, 1996, 30 years ago today!” the network captioned a then-and-now photo of Goldberg on the news program. “Lee, we thank you so much for sharing your talent, passion and dedication for weather with our viewers for 30 eventful years. Here’s to many more!”
