The ‘Dutton Ranch’ Star Who’s Getting a Lot More Screen Time in Season 2
One Dutton Ranch character is going to be a lot more present in Season 2, according to stars and executive producers Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.
Ed Harris‘ Everett McKinney is a war veteran and a veterinarian who has had an on-again, off-again romance with Annette Bening‘s Beulah Jackson. They ended Season 1 deciding to give their relationship a shot, but the truth about Beulah’s corrupt business dealings — and the decades-long history that led to her involvement — threw a wrench into their rekindled bond. Everett’s friendship with Beth and Rip plants him right in the middle of the tension, and he’s going to be much more important in Dutton Ranch Season 2 because of it.
Reilly and Hauser told TV Insider in our Dutton Ranch finale interview that the Season 1 plot necessitated Everett taking a bit of a back seat. Season 2 is when it will become clear that Beth, Rip, Everett, and Beulah are the four main characters of the show, plus Carter (Finn Little).
“He’s going to become a very important, integral part of Season 2,” Hauser told TV Insider. “And for both Kelly and I, obviously, Annette is phenomenal, but I cannot wait to work more with him. He’s such an amazing American actor that I think was used very sparingly this year. We’re going to make sure that he is a big part of helping us moving forward in whatever capacity.”
Season 1 set up Everett’s utility to the story, and Season 2 is going to expand his role greatly.
“I think Season 2 is going to feel very much more Ed’s show,” Reilly told us. “This is not the Beth and Rip show. This is Dutton Ranch, and there’s four lead characters, five. Annette Bening and Ed Harris, it’s such a privilege to have them come join our show. I’ve said this before, I feel like they made us legit. We could have just been a little soapy spinoff, and we’re not because of them. We’re a drama, we’re a new show, and it’s got some heavyweights in it. We’re very proud to be working with them.”
Mariano (Raoul Trujillo) will also return in Season 2, along with his son, Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba), Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind), and more.

Carter has to be part of the whole story..if you remember ..in Yellowstone..it came out that Beth had gotten pregnant with Rip’s child when she was very young..Rip does not know..she never told him..Carter is the baby she lost..if you also remember..her brother..Jamie..took her to a butcher. and she was never able to conceive after that..so Carter plays a very important part in the story.. Beth has changed from the time she was in Yellowstone..she seems softer now..

A butcher? No he took her to a post-abortion sterilization clinic.
He knew she would be sterilized. He signed the forms.
He was just a kid himself. This was the least evil thing he did.

Age doesn't match. Beth is in her 30s. She was a teen when she aborted

Carter needs to learn respect for the parents that never gave up on him!
-
B
I think the kidnapping just might open his eyes and teach him that respect!

Carter is the character as he is written. I don’t think he goes off, he just feeds his lines back to us. Plus his character is a teenage male who thinks he’s in love with that girl. He was just plain moody until he met her. I don’t like Oreana one bit.

She's Beth's mini me!

Love the show.
Wouldn't mind seeing Carter get written out, with his annoying moodiness , and he adds nothing to the story.

R
Not hardly. He is a gest addition. Love Beth soft side. He can't be left out. Stupid remark.

Great addition.

J
I agree. Love that it lets Beth and Rip be parents. Important part of the show.

I miss that mouth on Beth she was so strong on Yellowstone. I understand she has to show her softer side, but I love big bad Beth. Where is Walker and Jimmie and I like seeing Tyler do his cameos can we get some color on the screen if you know what I mean?
