Merlin (Dominic Monaghan) is very much part of the picture when The Librarians: The Next Chapter returns for its second season this summer.

The fantasy-adventure series returns to TNT on Sunday, August 2, and the team of Librarians will be facing new challenges and characters including familiar faces and special guest stars, as well as more mystery, magic, and mayhem.

The cast of The Librarians: The Next Chapter includes Callum McGowan (Vikram), Jessica Green (Charlie), Olivia Morris (Lysa), and Bluey Robinson (Connor).

Season 2’s guest cast includes special appearances by Dominic Monaghan and Jeremy Swift, as well as Josh Gates, Stefan Kapičić, Oliver Dench, Ty Tennant, Flula Borg, and Alan Emrys.

Reprising their roles from the original series — which ran four seasons from 2014 to 2018 — are Lindy Booth as Cassandra Cillian and Christian Kane as Jacob Stone.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is produced by Electric Entertainment for TNT. Dean Devlin serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Marc Roskin, Rachel Olschan-Wilson, and Gary Rosen. Kate Rorick and Tom MacRae are co-executive producers. Noah Wyle, who starred in the original Librarian movies and series, serves as producer. Brandon Lambdin, Mark Franco of Electric Entertainment, and Jonathan English of Balkanic Media also produce.

What is The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 2 about?

The series centers on the time-traveling Vikram, who’s stranded in the present and accidentally unleashes magic across the continent when he returns to his castle in Serbia, which has become a museum. He and the team must then recover powerful supernatural artifacts and restore order.

In Season 2, TNT teases, “the team must confront not only external threats but also their own deepest fears and darkest nightmares. Lysa (Olivia Morris) and Connor (Bluey Robinson) grapple with the realities of their new roles as Librarians, while Charlie (Jessica Green) struggles under the weight of being the team’s sole Guardian. Vikram (Callum McGowan), meanwhile, must surrender his lone-wolf instincts to fully embrace team mentality. Further complicating matters, the group unexpectedly crosses paths with legendary magician Merlin (Dominic Monaghan), who challenges the very foundation of the Library and tempts them to break its most sacred rule.”

The premiere brings them to an international boarding school after a mysterious outbreak of inexplicable rage, which is where they’ll encounter a man claiming he’s the wizard Merlin.

Season 2’s adventures include containing a chaos-unleashing genie, confronting a sinister new Peter Pan who holds one of their own captive, and chasing a Monkey’s Paw that forces them to confront their personal pasts.
